I found this book to be a read page-turned. It starts straightaway, no need to faff about, we’re plunged into the drama from page 1 with so many questions.

Sue, our main character, is quite complex and we see her at two times in her life. This really helps to understand her current outlook. Gritty drama. I could see this as a TV series!

Good read!

The Accident was a bit of a weird read for me, initially I was really gripped but then as the book went on I found myself losing interest and thinking it had become a little predictable. I will however give the author credit for accurately and sensitively covering an abusive relationship, so well that it genuinely was difficult to read in places. A solid 3/5 from me that I really wish would’ve been more as I feel there was a lot of potential but instead fell a little flat

The book was fast paced which kept it interesting and I liked the flashbacks and alternate viewpoints presented.
I did think that the ending of the book was a bit too neatly wrapped up... Good for a quick and exciting train journey read!

The Accident is a fast paced psychological thriller from debut author, C.L. Taylor.

Desperate to understand why her comatose 15 year old daughter would deliberately step into the path of a bus, Susan Jackson begins a frenzied hunt for clues amongst the secrets her daughter kept from her. As Susan slowly begins to piece together information from Charlotte's diary, phone and friends, shocking evidence of betrayal and blackmail begins to emerge, along with ugly secrets from Susan's own past.

The author nurtures an uneasy atmosphere from the first few pages of The Accident, building mistrust and dread as the story unfolds. Surrounded by secrets and lies, Susan doesn't know where to turn or how to make sense of the information she learns but is certain she can find the truth, even if everyone else believes she is simply chasing ghosts.

Taylor quickly establishes Susan an an unreliable narrator, Susan is deeply distressed and confused as you would expect of a mother whose child is lying in a coma but it soon becomes obvious that she is also unusually neurotic, and paranoid. While the present day, first person narrative communicates Susan's growing nervousness and fear, it's Susan's journal excerpts from 22 years earlier that helps to explain why she is so anxious.

A well crafted thriller, The Accident is fast paced and tense, culminating in a dramatic conclusion. A strong debut, I'd recommend it particularly to those who enjoyed Kimberly McCreight's novel, [b:Reconstructing Amelia|15776309|Reconstructing Amelia|Kimberly McCreight|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1350193583s/15776309.jpg|21488217].

I really enjoyed this book! The writing wasn't brilliant or particularly captivating but it did keep me guessing and I read it pretty quickly as I was on holiday so it was a good book for the pool side! My cousin also read it after me and she was intrigued too, so much so that she's going to be buying the other book by C.L Taylor called The Lie. I'm not ruling out ever reading it but I doubt I'll be picking it up anytime soon. All in all I would recommend giving it a read if you fancy a thriller to keep you on your toes.

This book didn't grab me the way a thriller should but it was a very easy read that I flew through quickly. I found myself enjoying the diary entries more than what was going on in the present chapters.

At times it was frustrating as nearly every other character refused to tell the protagonist key information and often their reasoning wasn't strong enough and was just a way for the author to try and prolong the mystery. I felt there could have been more to it than that.

The Accident by CL Taylor starts with Sue Jackson's daughter Charlotte is a coma after stepping in front of a bus, however after Sue finds her daughter's diary, she is convinced that there is more to it than meets the eye and looks deeper in Charlotte's life, uncovering many secrets!

The story alternates between the present day and the highs and lows of Sue's past and her rollercoaster relationship with James and although you know that they are going to link together, it was a surprise as to how – although part of the blurb on the back did “give away” quite a big twist but thankfully I didn’t read it until after I'd finished the book!

Difficult subject matters are covered and handled well with rape, abortion and abusive relationship all among those touched upon so whilst it's not a cosy read, it doesn’t really edge into anything too gratuitous There are twists, turns and red herrings which kept me going back and turning the pages but it didn’t really grip me until more than halfway in.

All told, a decent read and I'll certainly be reading more from CL Taylor in the future.

I have been meaning to get around to reading some more @callytaylor after I read Strangers so when I noticed that The Accident was on Kindle Unlimited I snapped it up.
