The Accident by C.L. Taylor
4.0
The Accident by CL Taylor starts with Sue Jackson's daughter Charlotte is a coma after stepping in front of a bus, however after Sue finds her daughter's diary, she is convinced that there is more to it than meets the eye and looks deeper in Charlotte's life, uncovering many secrets!
The story alternates between the present day and the highs and lows of Sue's past and her rollercoaster relationship with James and although you know that they are going to link together, it was a surprise as to how – although part of the blurb on the back did “give away” quite a big twist but thankfully I didn’t read it until after I'd finished the book!
Difficult subject matters are covered and handled well with rape, abortion and abusive relationship all among those touched upon so whilst it's not a cosy read, it doesn’t really edge into anything too gratuitous There are twists, turns and red herrings which kept me going back and turning the pages but it didn’t really grip me until more than halfway in.
All told, a decent read and I'll certainly be reading more from CL Taylor in the future.
