“In a fit of enthusiastic madness I created a rational creature and was bound towards him to assure, as far as was in my power, his happiness and well-being.”

i was not expecting to like this book - of course i had heard of ‘frankenstein’ but i had never sat down and actually read it, due to the “older” english that is used in the novel. however, when we were assigned it in my senior english class, i quickly became enthralled with the story. when i was told we wouldn’t finish it in class, i made effort to finish it up on my own. and i’m glad i did! this story has a lot of deep analysis that you can go into, but i’m not going to get into any of that here. it isn’t one of my new favorite books or anything, but i can’t lie and say i don’t feel a tad bit smarter for

“Housewife (n)—a light, worthless woman or girl—Oxford English Dictionary, compact edition, 1971”

i’m going to write this review spoiler free so my friend who has this on her TBR can read this review spoiler-free.

this book is amazing. i remember it feeling a little slow towards the beginning, and even when getting to the middle, but all of a sudden it’s like a bomb goes off and BOOM everything is happening at once and every sentence is one banger quote after another and before you known it, it’s three in the morning and you aren’t even done with the book.

i don’t give a flying fuck that this book was written by a man, hell, i didn’t even know that until the end cause i never judge a book based off of the author. he writes his characters good and the reviews calling this a “sexist” book, let’s just say they can’t figure out anything unless it’s spelled out for them. this book is wonderful, give it a try, you won’t regret it.

it took a while, but i finally finished this!

overall, this book is extremely beautiful. i do think i am just not the right type of audience for this book, as i haven’t had to deal with much grief in my life. because of that, i found it harder to want to keep reading and finish the story.

but if you’ve struggled with grief in your life, you will love this book.

the windhaven witches has been my first series i’ve read in a long time. typically i don’t go for series, i tend to go for one-shot, all wrapped up in one, type books, but for christmas of last year, my mother got me the 3rd installment (yes, the 3rd) and after we laughed and got the first one, i knew i had to read it.

this is not shakespeare. there are moments of grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, odd writing choices, and unrealistic dialogue. but that’s what makes this book so cozy. if you’re going into this series looking for an award winning novel that will knock your socks off, you’re barking up the wrong tree. but if you’re looking for a light read to carry with you or read a chapter a night, this is that series. it’s the series i would read in between my heavier and more serious books, because it really was like reading something from my childhood. this book is amazing in that regard, and i don’t mean this as an insult in anyway - i absolutely love it.

the characters in the book are all lovable and memorable, and i think a part of me will miss seeing what Colton or Lyle, or even Diana will be up to next. and of course the relationship between Dru and Angel are to die for (seriously, starting this series in a relationship and ending it being single was a trip and a half).

if you like supernatural, fun, light reads, with romance and adventures, this is your book. hell, may i even say, it might be FATE that you read it. ;)

i want to start off by saying that i came to read this book because of the author; alaina. i'm a huge fan of alaina and ash, and of course their podcast.

having said that though, i still want to give this book a fair score. do i think alaina is the worst author in the world? heavens no. is she the best? absolutely not. this book is just okay. it took me forever to finish which is never a good sign, and it was very rare that i had that "one more chapter!" feeling. the concept is overall a very good one, but i believe it was executed in a confusing manner. i can't decide yet if i will read the next book in this series, as this one just really didn't have me craving for more. i wanted to love this book so bad, but i just really couldn't.

“Yeah, I’m a cow, man. Touch me.”

this… is a book! no, seriously, i knew this was going to be gruesome and disgusting going in, and it didn’t disappoint. it wasn’t “too much” for me, but then again i have a strong stomach when it comes to reading. also - i will say, if i wasn’t already not eating cow before reading this, this would have solidified that decision.

i don’t know what this book is trying to do, and that’s one of the reasons it’s not a five star for me. there’s the obvious theme that we all live superficial lives and forget about the lives that aren’t glamorous that provides us these clean lives, but besides that im not sure. why cows, matthew?

as far as what i interpret is happening in this book, right now im unsure. i’ll read more reviews and such after i write my own that will probably shape my ideas more. right now though, i choose to believe this is a schizophrenic episode of a man who works at a slaughter factory and is mentally unhinged.

do i recommend you read this book? well, that’s up to you. however… i think it’s worth it for some of the banger comedic lines.

“Surprisingly.”

i don’t know how this took me a month to read, i must have been busy! this is a classic air-headed comfy book to read to forget about the real world and your problems. it’s not going to cause any thought provoking revelations or anything, but i read this type of stuff for that reason. sometime’s it’s just nice to read light airy stuff. minus a star because the author straight up “skip scened” the sex scene and i hate when authors do that ;( i def thjnk my next book will need to be a bit more serious after this fluffy read tho.

EDIT: i will miss lugging this book around everywhere and pulling it out for people to look at the title and raise their eyebrows!!

”to all the butches and femmes, past, present, and future”

i got this book on the first date i had with my girlfriend. to think that was all the way back in july of last year is crazy. life got in the way, and at one point i had to restart the book because i had forgotten everything that happened. but i’m so glad i recently took the time to finish it because this book is beautiful.

even though i’m not asian (i’m very much white), this book tugged and resonated with me in so many ways. the way that malinda lo writes, it makes you feel like you are her characters. you forget all about the world around you and before you know it, you’re another hundred pages in and 2 hours have passed.

i don’t want to spoil anything in this review, because it is truly such a great book that i want every lesbian to read. it truly makes you feel proud and appreciate gay history. i will for sure be reading the companion book to this one.

”Are you like the girls in the books too? Because I think I am.”
