Very much not a typical read for me. I never thought I'd EVER read a "romance" novel. But, it wasn't very heavy into that particular genre (at least I don't think it was). The time travel part was very sudden at the beginning and the end. The rest of the book had a decent story and (what really turned me on to it) it was set, relatively accurately I think, in the mid 1200's in Wales.

Having a modern day woman and her daughter transported back in time and across the Atlantic to be rescued from drowning in the marsh where her car wrecked by the last price of Wales (who was actually from Wales) Llywelyn Ein Llyw Olaf. It was really interesting reading about history with which I was not familiar. It has inspired me to go and actually look up and read about this area of history.

I also greatly enjoyed hearing different names such as Dafydd (sounds very close to David) and Gruffydd ap Gwenwynwyn (ap Gwen-wenwen is how it sounded). That was one of the best parts of listening to the audio book for this tale... I would NEVER have thought about or figured out exactly how to pronounce lots of the names of people and places.

This book was better that I thought it would be. I'd pre-judged it by the fact that it was a freebie plus I though the cover looked a little mass market and slushy. I was pleased to be proved wrong though.

The story was well paced and a good amount of historical information about the characters and no slushiness which was good. A bit of action but not excessively. The focus was mainly on the characters.

The ending was a bit something of nothing though and left me a little disappointed especially with unanswered questions regarding the time travel element...but maybe that will be explained later books in the series. I may get round to reading another in the series but it didn't grab me enough to make me rush to read the next and there are plenty of other books on my list I need to get on and read.

In summary I thought it was an entertaining story, well paced and well written but I felt it was missing that something which would make me want to read the next in the series.

This is the first I have read in this series and by this author ever. I for one enjoyed this story. If you are after an obvious romance with obvious sex scenes and your expected ending (due to the subtle romance) then this story is not for you. Do not go into this with expectations and you won't be disappointed. The romance is hinted at subtly with no sex hinted at until one certain point. But if one reads the story properly, there is an earlier moment that will lead to that one certain point and therefore becomes a 'well of course' moment.

When reading this, remember movies with romance in them from the 1920s through to the 1950s. They were subtle, like this story. Despite having said all this, it was a little disappointing that the author was so subtle about the romance and not mentioning, even in passing, just their first intimate night together. However, I'm looking forward to reading the next book.

I really enjoyed this book. The author told the story from both of the main character's point of view, alternating the storyteller with each chapter. It seems like it would be awkward, but it worked. As soon as I finished this book, I immediately bought book two.

I couldn't even finish it. Ended up skipping to end to even see what happens. I fell asleep reading more than I ever have in my reading career. Worth a shot because I love time-travel romance, but I seriously found zero romance, zero goosebumps up my arms, and ZERO butterfly's in my stomach when the two characters were in the same room together.

I can't leave a fair review of this book, because I never "finished". I had to skip to the end to see what happened, because somewhere in the book, I just lost my motivation to care for Meg. It felt like one big useless adventure, and Meg seemed to lose herself at the sight of a handsome Welsh prince. I can't do a formal review, because I didn't formally read the entire book. So this is the best I can do: It aimed high, and fell so, so short.
