· It's not what I expected/wanted from a prequel.
· It felt pointless.
* I thought that Max and Zereth were good friends before?
* I wish things were explained a bit better, everything was kind of just glossed over and the reader is suppose to catch up.
* So Nurra isn't a captain, but she's invited to the leadership meeting?

I’m writing this after I’ve read both Ashen Son and Daughter of No Worlds (in that order). I thought this was a fun read but, without the world building element that DoNW gives us, I felt a little lost in story at first and the significance of all the names, places, and magical elements. It was definitely interesting to see the beginnings of the relationship between Max and Nura, and how different it looks by the end of book 1. I enjoyed that it was action-packed from the get-go and great setup to see how Max got to where he is today. I do hope this story does eventually get finished as it adds some more depth to all the characters we get to see throughout the series

I really enjoyed the little novella. The way it dives into Max's family was such great and still left me wanting more!
Seeing how Max was proud and supportive of Nura was quite interesting, especially knowing how things unfold in the series. The contrast between the Nura in this novella and the one we see later on was pretty clear, and I loved how that gave us a deeper understanding of her and Mex’s relationship—though it’s heartbreaking to realize they were never quite on the same page. It hits even harder after reading the main series, knowing the outcome of it all.

And, Brayan and Sella? I need their story so I hope they get a little novella.
Overall, a great companion to the original series.

While this novella could technically be read at any time, I would suggest reading it after the first book. But in all honesty it’s not necessary at all to read. I do appreciate that this is free to access on the authors website.
It seems like only the first part is available right now and I’m not sure if she is still planning on releasing more part but I was hoping to see some more of the background of the Ryvenai rebellion, the events of the war, and when Max takes in Reshaye. The series and the novella never say why there is a rebellion in the first place and why the Farilone’s weren’t apart of it. I feel like if you are going to do a novella, that would actually make the information in it worth while.

This is a novella that accompanies the War of Lost Hearts series. It was fun to see a more detailed version of Maxantarius’s past.

I will not put a rating on this book because only the first part is out.
But I can say that I loved it ! It's the first "novel" from Carissa Broadbent that I have read so be gentle with me but I really loved it and loved to the idea to know more about Max's past.
I'm really excited to read the rest when it will be out
