Once the next parts are finished, I’m sure I’ll change my mind.
This first part has been a nice addition to Max’s story. I feel like it adds depth to his character and background.
I really hope that it will eventually be finished!

A lot of the reviews here feel harsh! I was reminded why I love this author so much. I was instantly sucked in and stressed by the circumstances even knowing the outcome. The vibe was so consistent with the original series. It felt like coming home (I read war of lost hearts first). Really cool to see the political setup and discover the buds of Max’s lover boy disposition.

I do think it's incredibly misleading of the author to advertise this as a prequel novella only to end it with the following:
Thank you for reading! This concludes the first novella in Ashen Son. As a member of my mailing list, you'll receive the next three parts as they release over the next few months.
This was released August 2022, and it is now 2025 with no sign of the remaining parts. Maybe it's lingering trauma from reading the first two Patrick Rothfuss books without a sign of the final one, but I find this a disingenuous marketing ploy. Don't tell a story if you haven't finished it. This didn't give the readers any information they didn't have after reading the series.

i thought this was all the parts but this is part one only.

i do believe that this is a great fantasy novella but i wouldn’t recommend or bother reading this without reading daughter of no worlds.

i read it after the first two books in the main series and i only understood most of it because of the world building and knowing the characters from those books already.

also, seeing pre war max (and nura) that is NOT my man 😭
