This book seemed to be a Plot Device, meant to move the story along and not necessarily to tell its own story. Still, it is charming and in keeping with the cadence and theme of the other books in this series.

I have in the past really enjoyed this series' delightful audiobooks, kind of as palate cleansers, in between other more serious or depressing reads. Usually they are light, funny, fast and heart warming with a great narrator on the audio version.
But this was by far my least favorite of the first five books, mainly because it was mostly a summary of all that has happened so far in the earlier books!
I'm not sure if all this repetition is really necessary every time, cause I think most ppl who start reading books in a series would read them in order.. but here by repeating every characters background story at nauseum, the author ends up wasting three qtrs of the book. Usually I find the smart, ingenious and personable approach of Ma Ramutsi in solving her cases, very heart warming and engaging... but here she only had one case the entire book that was summarized in probably less then ten pages. .
Unfortunately unlike the other books, I found myself utterly bored with the story this time... I'm not sure how he continues to write 18 more books in the series, if he ran out of new things to say so early on!!
But I think before I can move on to book 6, I'll be taking a break from this series for awhile, so maybe if the next book is similar, I won't be as disappointed.

Still cute and charming as all the books in this series are, however a bit lacking on the mystery that I came for

This cupboard is not useful of material wealth, it is also filled with relationships, experiences, and wisdoms. (For some reasons that's called a metaphor) Well this cupboard be a symbolic nature of an event in this book? I guess we'll now

It was not what I expected. My wife read this book and handed it to me for a flight home. It's not really a detective story or a mystery...but it's nice. Its a nice story about life in Botswana. Fictional of course, but still kind of nice. Not sure I'll go out of my way to read his others, but I did enjoy it.

I listened to this on audiobook and it did not go over well. Those of you who are familiar with the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency know that the main characters names is Mma Precious Ramotswe. It's the "Mma" that drove me crazy all through the book. Before when I read these books, I assumed that Mma was an abbreviation, sort of like Mrs., which translated into a word. Not so. It is actually pronounced M-m-a. The narrator sounded like she stuttered every single time she said Mma. It drove me crazy. Mmmmmmmmmmma Ramotswe....Not fun to listen too.
In my opinion, some books that are fun, light reads just do not translate well to audio books. This series is one of those. The narration gets very repetitious.
But **spoiler alert** I was very happy that they finally got married :)
