The Full Cupboard of Life by Alexander McCall Smith
2.0
I have in the past really enjoyed this series' delightful audiobooks, kind of as palate cleansers, in between other more serious or depressing reads. Usually they are light, funny, fast and heart warming with a great narrator on the audio version.
But this was by far my least favorite of the first five books, mainly because it was mostly a summary of all that has happened so far in the earlier books!
I'm not sure if all this repetition is really necessary every time, cause I think most ppl who start reading books in a series would read them in order.. but here by repeating every characters background story at nauseum, the author ends up wasting three qtrs of the book. Usually I find the smart, ingenious and personable approach of Ma Ramutsi in solving her cases, very heart warming and engaging... but here she only had one case the entire book that was summarized in probably less then ten pages. .
Unfortunately unlike the other books, I found myself utterly bored with the story this time... I'm not sure how he continues to write 18 more books in the series, if he ran out of new things to say so early on!!
But I think before I can move on to book 6, I'll be taking a break from this series for awhile, so maybe if the next book is similar, I won't be as disappointed.
