what a perspective on the war and what a voice she had, spoken or written. breaks my heart to know her fate.

I read this as a young girl, & it definitely gave me a perspective on WWII that I never would have learned in school. They didn't teach us about the Holocaust. This book touched me & has always made me wonder how a few evil people could be so completely destructive & kill so many innocent lives.

Anne Frank is the polar opposite of the Third Reich. She shows you faith in humanity when in reality, she should have had none.

I feel like a terrible history major for giving such a low rating. I think everyone should read this and that it an extremely important historical artifact. With that being said, it just wasn’t for me. I was ready to be done with it about 200 pages in. Even though it wasnt a favorite, there are definitely some incredible quotes from Anne.

The best, most well known account of life for Jews during WWII in Holland. The family goes into hiding in 1942 and lives in two floors above a warehouse in Amsterdam. They can never go outside and rely completely on the support of friends. Ann goes from age 13 to 15 in the book. In the midst of the fear and tension of being in hiding, Ann is experiencing the emotional roller coaster of growing up. Very powerful and very moving.

This is the version I read as a kid (ca. 1990). But with my kids, I'll read "The Definitive Version."

Read an earlier edition ca. 1990, then read definitive version ca. 1995.

Nota: 7/10
