Novel downloaded from Voracious Readers. Thei book has some interesting features: magic, elves, and even dragons. But there is just too much. At least 3 lots of star crossed lovers. No one questions lies. Everything is quite overwhelming….everyone is estranged or misunderstood from lovers, parents, siblings. Conflict and danger is fine, but come on…everyone is at cross purposes.Everyone is drowning in danger, misunderstanding and just unrelieved misery. I like a little hope, a little joy…even just a little, but all the “love” is compromised.

This one grabbed me from the very beginning!

This book was a delight to read. I can’t say there is a single part of this book that I didn’t enjoy. Everything, from the writing, to the characters, and the plot kept me on my toes and left me eager for more. Like I mentioned, I was sucked in from the very beginning and I had to remind myself to stop reading because I got too caught up to savour it.

For me Frozen Hearts and Death Magic was a nice slow-burn romance nicely woven into a wonderful fantasy plot.

◦ I've received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ◦

The book begins with Naia who is being drawn to the forest next to their manor. Why or how she ended up going there is a mystery even for herself. There she finds River, a mysterious “ancient” fae, and saves his life and in return, she asks for a kiss.

The book has a very big note of mystery especially when it involves River. The beginning was cryptic and drew me in immediately and I love when that happens because I end up reading the books so quickly.

The book overall is an amazing story, the magic system is something I’ve never read before. Each character inherits their parent's magic powers (either dad or mom, or both sometimes) like wielding iron, controlling the animals, or even having the green thumb and being good with plants and using them for good or bad. I really enjoyed the magic system it was really great and I wish it will be a little bit more explored because it would be so amazing knowing more about their powers. Also, their descriptions based on their magical powers were really clever and really easy to remember like Ironbringer.

The book is being told from different pov’s giving you the chance to see each person’s feelings, actions and their reactions, even tho we get multiple pov’s keeping track with them was very easy and I didn’t get confused on who’s turn is now.

The plot twists are lots of them, and when you think you’ve figured what’s going to happen next something changes and you’re back at it again. There were also some more spicy moments that felt just perfect, nothing too smutty but just the right amount of spice.

However, as much as I’ve enjoyed the book I also felt something was missing. I usually enjoy connecting with the characters and feel like I live through them, sadly this time didn’t happen. I couldn’t connect with any of the involved characters, I felt their emotions and the way they reacted through some situations lacking – I was expecting some scenes to be breathtaking and really impactful but sadly they felt a little bit flat for me.

The book also has some TW such as physical and mental abuse and very much brainwashing – the scenes are descriptive enough to make you feel uncomfortable.

The ending of the book was very intriguing and leaves space for so much more to be explored in the next book and I am for sure going to follow with the series and hopefully, I’ll be able to connect with them, if not the plot and the spicy do make-up for what felt like missing in my opinion.

2.5 stars rounded to 3.

I have mixed feelings about this book.

The pros:
- two dynamic, romantic relationships
- solid world building
- interesting take on prosthetics
- captivating storyline that picks up about 40% of the way;

Cons:
- hard to read due to the poor editing
- writing is pretty basic and leaves a lot to be desired
- extremely focused on romance and marriage at the beginning, would have rather been introduced to characters and political discourse first.

I’ll read book 2 in the hopes of HEAs for both couples highlighted in book 1.

I…really wanted to love this book. I finished it but I was disappointed. I don’t mind instant love stories, it’s a common theme for fae/dragons/magic folk to know their true mate on sight. I was annoyed by how long it took to explain ANY of what was going on. So many people not telling anyone anything leading to a bunch of pointless confusion and feelings of betrayal by different characters. I understand wanting to keep things interesting and keep the reader in the story but this book just did not do it for me. Naia and River ended up kind of irritating me with how they acted with each other and Ursiana was not a good character. The author was going for a redemption thing once her and the king finally talked to each other before her potential death but i didn’t come across well. And the whole turning Fel into a dragon thing at the end and having him flying away to who knows where with Leah magically not falling off was an odd choice, though since the whole point is his relationship with Leah you know he’ll find a way to change back.

"River. My name."

"-What do you want from me, Naia?
+Kiss me"

"I think I killed him"

"-Did someone hurt you?
+Why? Do you by any chance care?
-No. But it doesn't mean I'm not gonna kill them").
¿O quizás no tan inocente?

"The death rarely have any business with the living"

So...

"Tip: if you ever make a deal whit fae, and If you think they didn't swindled you, watch out, something even worse is coming"

Prepárense para la guerra, señores. Esto solo ha empezado.
