I really enjoy this series, and this book was a nice return to it. A good fun read.

Reading this was bittersweet. It is the last book on the Landover series and I had to find a copy at a second-hand bookstore because it is out of print. The ending hints at more but I do not expect to see any others as this series was not a successful as the Shannara books.

Decent book I finished it really quick. Leaves the series open for more.

This definitely wasn't as good as the others. It didn't help that the narrator was different and his voices were awful for all characters. But the story wasn't as engaging and exciting, though it did end pretty well. The fact that Nightshade disappeared at the end makes me think there will be another book involving her, which I am hesitant about, since I feel they need a different evil to fight against.

This one started slower than the previous books in the Landover series and the main character was pretty annoying for most of it. The story turned a good corner about half way through and got much more interesting.

I liked this one a lot better than the earlier ones. I still feel like there is a deeper level that is missing and there were some times that I wanted to smack the characters over the head. But it was pretty close to a Mighty Girl story, even if she was a bit whiny at times.
Strabo is still best. I think Strabo is the real hero of this series.

If you read it as starter fantasy for kids, it's really good. But if your palate is more developed, it seems a really paint by numbers fantasy novel.

This was rather disappointing in terms of my beloved Landover series. I've always thought of this series as rather whimsical, with a great heart, good adventure, and some fun politics thrown in and whirled together. This book is just rather blah. I think every since Brooks started making stories about the Princess rather than Ben and Willow, they just haven't been as interesting. This follows suit.
Basically the spoiled brat Princess gets herself thrown out of prep school here in our world. She returns home, where she embarks on a silly and far too drawn out journey, to end up where her parents wanted her to anyway, the Libris.
While there she, of course, discovers adventure and true love. But neither the adventure or the true love was very interesting and entertaining. And I'm not sure I'm okay with a Landover book that doesn't have one single scene from the Paladin and only uses Ben and Willow as bookends.
I'm glad I read it, but it won't be an addition to my collection.

As has been noted in many reviews, I found the protagonist to be thoroughly unlikeable, with few (if any) redeeming qualities. I could not sympathize with Mistaya, nor could I understand her point of view. In addition, I remember really liking her father, Ben Holiday, but he's barely in this book, and when he is present, he's not as fun as I remember him being. Despite disliking the main character, I still think the book was fairly well-written. This book gets 3 stars because it wasn't terrible enough to be a 2 star book and I have no desire to read it again (which is one of the criteria for a 4 star book).
