I would have preferred them to stay on the station, seemed like a better story to me, but I didn't write it so whatever. Also hiw many times can one person say er or erg that was extremely annoying. I spent the entire time Abby was the narrator wishing it was all read by the male.

this was a super promising first book in the series! i've read a lot of alien romances, but i think this was the first one i've read that actually took place in the future. i liked that in this version, humans had already made their way to space.

it made it so the heroine didn't feel as clueless, and we didn't have to sit through any of the "whoa aliens are real???" internal dialogue. she's a space scientist who isn't afraid of aliens, because she's dealt with them before.

i was worried that in a society that focuses on war and valor and bravery that the hero would look down on the heroine for being a "weaker" species, but i was pleasantly surprised to find that he was impressed by her bravery from the beginning.

i will say, it does tickle me a little bit that this title feels so similar to ice planet barbarians. the books aren't too similar, but i would find it very funny if "(adjective) planet (word for fighters)" became the new "a court of (noun) and (noun)"

Dark Planet Warriors was surprisingly good. I don’t read many sci-fi romances, especially not with alien heroes, so I don’t think I can say much aside from the fact that this was an enjoyable read. I really liked the worldbuilding and the different species of aliens. I also really appreciated that the author was able to build a strong foundation for this series without making this book seem like it was solely there to set up the rest of the series.

If I had to nitpick, I would say there were definitely areas in the story that needed more fleshing out and I think the characters could’ve had a bit more depth but for the most part, I really enjoyed how easy this book was to get through. I highly recommend the audiobook as well, the male narrator took some time to get used to but other than that, they were pretty much perfect in their roles.

Fun alien read. There were a few times that Abby annoyed me. She was on a different planet, of course things wouldn’t be like she knew them to be, listen to your General instead of fighting him.

All in all, it dragged a bit in the middle but I’m looking forward to reading the next books in the series.

I went into this blind but was pleasantly surprised. There’s not too much world building but for the most part, it’s easy to understand the universe this is set in and the dynamics of the different species within the galaxy.

The MMC is the typical arrogant alpha-male who doesn’t understand why he feels a pull towards the FMC but covets her nonetheless. The FMC isn’t a doormat, but she also isn’t a badass in the typical sense. She’s just normal with sass and a spine. It’s kind of refreshing to read about a normal FMC. Unfortunately, this also means she doesn’t necessarily stand out and it feels like there’s nothing special about her. But that might be the point that I have missed.

The spice is OK- scratches the itch this story creates. The majority of the focus is on the overarching story and political intrigue happening on the MMC’s home planet. That part of the story is interesting and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

TBH, I never truly felt invested in the relationship between Tarak and Abbey. With some of the trials and tribulations they faced, I should have (in theory) felt deeper about them but there was something still superficial about their interactions and their love scenes felt more like casual sex and less like love making.

A solid first volume to what is a bit of a heavier / darker (literally and figuratively) series. This is actually a re-read for me as I never recorded it the first time through.
