I can't believe I'm writing this, but this book was a solid 3.5 stars at most.
I LOVE Kenyon and all her books, but this particular book is more an amalgamation of little scenes that take place in between other books and you need to be fully up to speed on everything that's happened on all three series to get what's going on.
Yes, it's the love story of star-crossed lovers Fang and Aimee, but it's told in flashes as time and a whole lot of events pass by outside of the pages and in-between chapters.
I'm familiar with all the events that get hinted at in this book and I still found myself annoyed that the reader is expected to be familiar with major plot points to fully enjoy and understand the events that unfold. And some major revelations and plot points happen here. It's an important read. However, it left me feeling a bit let down as the story of Fang and Aimee. We get their reactions to events from other books and a parts of their story, but not a coherently fluid plot. These two characters deserved something dedicated completely to them.

Oh, Sherrilyn Kenyon. I wish I could quit you. For some reason I continue to pick up your books. Each time I read a new one, I am generally confused and mostly disappointed. At least this one was shorter.

I'm glad Aimee and Fang's story was finally told. The story was great and it was interesting to see how it wove through other books. The only thing that was a little confusing was the timeline. It seemed like it should be only taking a matter of weeks or months, but I believe the other books were spread out over a much longer period. I could be wrong though.

Several new characters were introduced and while they were interesting they can't really take the place of Ash, who I really missed. I know he isn't going to be the focus of this group of books but he will be missed.

The book did leave a few unanswered questions that I hope are addressed in future books. The ring that Aimee received being one of them. She never used the ring as far as I could tell, but was given it and told that she would need it. Also, are Aimee and Fang sterile or will there be little bolfs running around New Orleans? :)

I wasn't very impressed with this story. I thought she tried to hard to go back and weave Fury's plot into previous stories. There were too many characters and she's introducing too many new worlds. It's becoming hard to keep track of the various different "people" and who they are siding with. Frankly, it was hard to follow, and I lost interest because of it. Finally, the characters that Fury and Aimee were in Vane and Bride's story turned into entirely different people... those I didn't care much for. My favorite parts of the book were when Vane and Bride made reappearances. If you're hardcore into Kenyon, then, you'll find enjoyment in this story. If not, I don't think I'd recommend picking it up. For the record, I'm typically a huge fan of her's... This book just left me wanting.

Aww. As the rest of the world goes kind of haywire and everything is chaotic, and the author introduces yet more species and politics, The sweet love story still shines bright. :-)
