Life-changing

While the concepts in this book are not new, shame and judgment ruled my life for a long time. I was looking for new tools to help me move forward in my personal journey of evolution to ease my suffering and have more joy in my life. My friend recommended this book, and I am not being dramatic when I say that I will never be the same. Learning how to have self-compassion and self-appreciation has changed my life *significantly* and helped me be kinder to myself and others, helped me be more resilient, less critical, and more appreciative of my life as a whole. So grateful for the gift of this book in my life.

A must read for anyone who struggles with shame and self-criticism. Definitely a life changing book, but I do think some of the author’s anecdotal stories didn’t age the best. There was plenty of opportunity to practice compassion towards others in the example stories which I felt was genius whether it was intentional or not. However, none of this took away from the overall very important message of self compassion.

Abandoned. More a book about how not to be mean to yourself. Not exactly what I was looking for.

At times it can get a bit preachy but does offer some good data.

I don't think I have enough self-compassion to make time for this book. OR maybe I have enough self-compassion to not make time for this book. Shrug.

This book is intended for the general audience, it is written in a fairly simple language, yet contains a very soft and compassionate tone.
The author presents compelling arguments, which are backed by research, why being compassionate to self is key to happy and healthy well-being. She highlights why self-compassion is lacking in our society and how to combat that. The book contains exercises in each chapter to help one become more aware of themselves and how to give yourself kindness and compassion in times of pain and suffering. I commend the courage of the author to open up and share her personal life experiences. She doesn't preach from the pulpit, just shows by example how to get around the obstacles of our own unkind behavior.

I found the book very helpful in reaffirming my compassionate behavior and provided useful examples on how to get around self-judgement.

Man. This would have been a five star book until she talks about taking her autistic son to get the autism magiked out of him while they were being whipped. Kinda level 12 crunchy woman stuff.
