I’m not sure if I’m Kim Stone’d out or if it was the book, but I had a really difficult time getting into this and it took me forever to finish. And the whodunnit in this one was easily figured out. Overall, not impressed with the fourth installment.
ETA: I have to say, I find it pretty unbelievable that Kim, who is a great detective and generally distrustful towards people, would just take the boyfriend at his word, especially considering that his supposed girlfriend was nearly murdered and the killer is still loose. Why wouldn’t she be suspicious AF of this guy?

Well, I'm Angela Marsons fan. I enjoy Kim Stone Stories and will definitely follow them in the future. This installment however didn't really catch my attention and even though it's not very long book at times I felt disengaged. Also the final twist wasn't surprising. Since the introduction of this character I suspected who'll turn out to be main antagonist. All in all - decent book, but while I enjoyed first three a lot, I've finished this one just for the sake of being up to date with Kim Stone adventures.

I'm running out of superlatives for this series. I do worry one day the ball might be dropped, or that I'm hyping myself up too much, but I needn't. Angela Marsons delivers another first rate thriller starring DI Kim Stone, fast becoming one of my favourite protagonists of any series ever. Like the first three books, I couldn't put this gripping read down, reading late night to the point of exhaustion (and dropping my Kindle on my face at least twice) and suitably blindsided by the twist. All hail the new Queen of Crime!

I really loved this book and enjoyed the plot twists, suspense storyline and variety of characters. I felt there was a little bit missing from character development- I didn’t know much of anything about the FMC and the few details painted into the picture didn’t really do much to draw me into her. With that said, I picked this book up and then realized it’s number four in a series, so I’m not eating it down for something that very well may be better addressed in prior books. I do look forward to finding the other books in this series now!!

I do enjoy a good thriller and that really was a good one, so much so that I read it in just under six hours. Six hours where I ignored my poor husband because I was desperate to know “who did it”.
Although I haven’t read any of the other D.I Kim Stone stories I didn’t have any issues with story gapping, in fact the story read quite well as a stand-alone. It was clever, fast paced and had me on the edge of my seat. Really good story

Great addition to the D.I. Kim Stone series!
Play Dead is the 4th book in the series by Angela Marsons.
I’m still enjoying the characters, plots and writing in this series. Without a doubt!
It seems like Marsons has found her niche with writing crime detective thrillers. She’s just damn good at it.
Play Dead starts off with D.I. Kim Stone and her detective squad going to the Westerly research facility. This facility is a body farm where human bodies are donated for investigation to help with decomposition and cold cases.
While there, D.I. Kim Stone finds a fresh body that’s not meant to be there. And this is the start of what turns into a race to figure out why these women are being killed and who the actual killer is.
I enjoyed the tension and mystery of who the serial killer was from their POV chapters. Those chapters were very gripping. I thought the ending was a little too convenient with the circumstances of the killer, but I still enjoyed it!
I’m not sure where Marsons plans on taking the character of D.I. Kim Stone. I enjoy reading about characters that grow with the series and I’m hoping for more emotional growth from this character.
Recommended to fans of crime detective thrillers and people that love a great, suspenseful read!
Looking forward to continuing with this series!

Me encanta
