Det jag uppskattat mest med boken är dess sett att ge en bild av hur en såg på livet, kärleken och konst. Hur mycket saker är samma fast för andra saker. Den var bättre än vad jag trodde den skulle var, eller jag gillade den iaf mer än vad jag trodde. Är glatt överraskad.
Tagit lång tid att läsa men har varit underhållande varje gång jag plockat upp den igen. Hans sätt att skriva gör den lätt att plocka upp igen, då han ofta påminner läsaren om vad som skett ÄLSKAR sånt. Har reserverat Les Miserables, den skrev han mer än 30 år efter denna, kul om en ser någon skillnad i hans skrivande.

”Svenska boken blir denna, chockad att det är samma kille som skrivit les miserables.
Massa beskrivningar, denna kan bli tuff att läsa. Mycket gammalt språk. Kämpa!
Kul hur de beskriver ”dagens ungdom” exakt som den beskrivs idag, inte mycket som ändrats på hundratals år hahah
Har kommit in i språket mer och fnissar till stundtals, gillar den verkligen

Okej så nu är esmeralda gift med poeten som har blivit omhändertagen av frollo
Men frollo har fortfarande ringaren också som han tagit hand om, som försökte hoppa på esmeralda som blev räddad av ferbus som hon nu är kär i
Hittills känns esmeralda äcklad av ringaren
Några av namnen på platserna känner jag igen som tunnelbanestationer i Paris, kul!
En lååppåång del som bara beskriver hur Paris såg ut, ganska intressant men läser inte den delen jättenoga
Frollo har en bror, Jehan (var han ev av de olydiga studenterna i början?) som han raisar som sin son, adopterar quasimodo för han tycker synd om honom, ser sin bror i honom
Smått intressant om att det skriva ordet dödar byggnaden. Om att vi tidigare skrev med byggnader och sten och det var mer långsiktigt, jämfört med en bok som kan tändas med eld. Samma som vi pratar om att internet dödar boken, och att boken är mer bastant men internet kan få ett virus eller raderas, typ.
Kul passage om en döv som förhör en döv
Det kapitlet är verkligen mästerligt skriven, skulle kunna passa som en novell. Favorit hittills. Känns som en scen från en bra film, kan se den framför mig.
Gillar att författaren påminner oss läsare lite om karaktärers tidigare drag och vad de tidigare gått igenom i boken. Väldigt bra för mig som läser oftast utsträckt på flera veckor.
Gillar att det är som små noveller som bygger upp till helhetens historia
När den får flow då jävlar får den flow, läser noggrant och intresserat

Truly, a masterpiece that will stir the soul. Hugo’s novel is dark, emotional, and places you right in the center of Paris and amongst the cruelness and chaos of these character’s lives, just as he did with another favorite of mine, Les Miserables.
The Hunchback of Notre Dame has always been my favorite Disney movie, so I was intrigued and surprised by how different it is from the novel. I spotted references kept, which was interesting! This novel is incredibly heart wrenching and makes you feel all sorts of emotions - mostly anger. Quasimodo isn’t even the main character, I would say it is moreso La Esmeralda. I really loved her character, and Djali was so darn cute. Frollo, on the other hand. I think he was a fantastic personification of corruption. In other words, he is disgusting and I despised him. Phoebus was also quite unlikeable - big himbo energy but not in a good way. I can’t even wrap my head around everything but it was just a fantastic novel. It’s so complex and has layers to it. I see it as a large commentary and criticism of the nobility and Church during the time period it is set in. It just brings forward the chaos and how horrid the world and mankind can truly be, but the most unlikely of people in our eyes are often the most beautiful. I think this is a classic everyone should read. It is by no means a happy book, but it is well worth the time. ❤️

Siempre me cuesta puntuar un clásico y este se me hace más difícil todavía...
Para escribir esta obra, Victor Hugo se inspiró en un grabado que encontró en la Catedral de Notre Dame. En torno a esa simple palabra, creó este libro, imaginándose quién la había escrito y bajo qué circunstancias. Además, utilizó el libro como excusa para plantear la conservación arquitectónica de la ciudad de París.
Eso fue, sin duda, lo más pesado del libro. Hay capítulos enteros describiéndonos la catedral, el París medieval (comparándolo con el de 1830), esculturas, estatuas, plazas y un interminable etcétera. Lo peor es que esto se da en los primeros capítulos, cuando apenas se nos han presentado los personajes y no hay atisbo de trama, así que el libro se hace cuesta arriba. Y más a personas (como yo) que no tienen mucha idea de la diferencia entre el estilo gótico o el clásico, o que desconocen los reyes o santos de los que se hablan.
Hay que tenerle mucha paciencia al libro, porque el verdadero sentido de la historia comienza más allá de la mitad. Una vez llegado a este punto, mejora muchísimo. El estilo de Victor Hugo se vuelve mucho más claro y, aunque a veces se distrae del tema principal, retoma enseguida la acción y suceden muchas cosas en muy pocas páginas.
No conecte especialmente con ningún personaje, algunos son unidimensionales, chatos y no entiendo del todo su motivaciones para actuar.
Aun así el libro logró conmoverme en los últimos capítulos.
El final (y el libro en general) fue trágico y desgarrador, justamente como la palabra del comienzo 'AN'AIKH (fatalidad) promete.

After having this book on my shelf for many years, I decided to dive straight in. With the help of an audiobook of course. What a tragedy to read for the human condition to think our only value lies in our appearance. Quasimodo is just trying to do his best; Phoebus is a complete, utter dick; Frollo is a disturbed weirdo, and Gringoire... I mean he got his goat so he's happy? I will say, like many classics, it took so long for the story to go anywhere that I was interested in. While I value what Hugo was trying to do, I just wanted the meat and bones of this. The real connections and incidents, not the history lessons. Those connections are what earn this rating. Did I still cry at the ending? You bet your bottom I did. And I don't regret it for one moment.

How did they make a DISNEY movie of this?! So bleak it makes "Les Miserables" look like a cartoon. Digressive, gratuitously violent, grim. What a disappointment.

Listened to an Audio Reading by Christopher Lee.
A dark yet beautiful and sometimes humorous reading. I don't believe it to be as beautiful as Les Miserables, however, I still enjoyed the words Victor Hugo strings together to weave the story. The tapestry the words create paint vivid images that come to life.
Many revelations in the book were not surprising, and Hugo does not insult his reader's intelligence by pretending they are. He simply tells the story, often jumping from person to situation, and expects you to follow him. And you can, very easily as if the story did not just leap through windows of towers down to the streets.
I read someone asking if this book was appropriate for a child of 11 - It depends on your child's maturity, I suppose, however I personally would not encourage my own child to read this until they were older. Many people believe Disney's Hunchback to be a very dark film for a child's movie, I think it light in comparison to the book.
