The Traitor's Kiss by Erin Beaty

This was a fun YA fantasy with spies and intrigue. I enjoyed the romance in this one as well as Sage as a character. I remember this series having pretty middle of the road reviews back when it was released, but I honestly enjoyed the story and I’m also pleased that the rest of the books seem to continue to feature Sage and the same love interest, which doesn’t always tend to happen in YA fantasy trilogies. I definitely recommend this if you’re looking for an adventurous story with a main character you can’t help but root for.

Well that was crazy.
It was over the top and ridiculous in my favorite ways, the ways all Wattpad originated books are and I don’t know why, but I just eat it up.
Asa was downright awful, Sloan was a total Bella, and Luke was literally the worst cop on the planet. But I knew going in that I wasn’t going to take this story super seriously and I had fun reading it.

I didn’t enjoy this one as much as I’d hoped and I honestly feel like it hasn’t stood the test of time with how we use cell phones to the popularity of zombies.
I liked the characters, though.
Overall, the story was interesting, but it’s not his strongest book and not one I’d recommend starting with.

I finished this and my first thought was that sometimes side characters should just be side characters.
I really enjoyed Mische in the first two books as a dedicated friend and overall sweet person, but I really didn’t enjoy being inside her head. I knew she punished herself and still struggled with the whole sun god thing and I honestly didn’t need to know just how deep her issues really went. I didn’t need to spend an entire book adventure watching her struggle to see what I all already did… that the gods really don’t care about you. We already saw Oraya learn that lesson and saw how immature and ridiculous they are.
It was hard to go from Oraya and Raihn to Mische’s POV as a result.
Still, I enjoyed Asar as a character and his dog. I would have preferred to have the book be entirely from his POV instead of Mische, but I know we’ll get it next book.
I didn’t love the romance in this one… it felt like they respected each other and were building on that, but her inability to let herself find basic pleasure in anything as a vampire made it hard to root for anything. I was frustrated by her thought process anytime she realized maybe she liked Asar. There was so much happening with the underworld and the wraiths that Mische didn’t have the time or energy to fully unpack her own issues with the trauma she endured with the sun god and her life as a vampire.
I really wish that Mische remained a side character and had some time before entering into her own romance era of books to fully work through what happened to her, learn to live and love without the religious guilt.

Overall, I kind of hated this one, but I was intrigued by the Shadowborn and I will read book two just to see how the conflict plays out.

I usually rage when I pick up an adult fantasy or gothic story and it turns out to be YA in disguise, but I actually enjoyed this one. I loved the writing. I didn’t care if the world building didn’t follow a culture or inspiration, the author could have just pulled tree names out of a hat or picked her favorite spindly trees to use for last names and that was fine with me.
I loved the Nightmare inside of Elspeth, I enjoyed the various characters and cryptic conversations. I even enjoyed the small stolen moments with Ravyn and also didn’t even care that his name was all fancy with its Y.
Overall, the vibes worked for me in this one and I’m eager to see what will happen next.
If you’re looking for anything overly complex as an adult gothic fantasy OR you grabbed an adult fantasy romance for spice, maybe go pick up something else, but if you can enjoy a nice story with a misty backdrop and a little bit of romance, this is great!

An action adventure romance with some Indiana Jones vibes? Sign me up!
I think this will be a huge hit for many readers. It was fun and adventurous. I loved the beginning with the awkward meet cute!

I did feel like the book was lacking something, but I don’t think most people will feel that way. It seemed very YA to me, like this was a class trip and Miri was just along for the ride instead of being the leading archaeologist, because she was so insecure and inexperienced. That also made the romance almost feel out of place. The cartoonish villain vibes definitely added to YA feeling as well. It seems like most people really enjoyed this and didn’t have the same criticisms, so perhaps it was just me and my mood. I really love Indiana Jones and I’m wondering if my expectations for the adventure portion were too high.

Overall, I would recommend this and thought it was fun to read!

I have heard nothing but great things about this book and I joined a buddy read on Instagram for it.
First, I tried the audiobook which I very much do not recommend. I did not enjoy the narrator… so much so that I bought the ebook because otherwise I was going to DNF.
Overall, if you enjoy small town friends to lovers romance and enjoy stories in which best friends are secretly into each other, this is fantastic and I can see why it’s so popular.
For me, it wasn’t really my jam. I think trying the first 20% via audiobook didn’t help. I much preferred the book version, but I was already somewhat frustrated by the main characters. I didn’t know what the conflict would be…To me, Luka was clearly just as much into Stella as she was him. I just did not enjoy the way she acted like it was one sided, but she was narrating the story and therefore so obviously noting the moments in which his expression changed or he was paying extra attention or clearing his throat like.. girl are you just blind?
I felt irritated reading, like what am I waiting for other than for these two to grow some courage and communicate? There’s no conflict. Even the whole social media part was very much lacking any sort of stakes. I guess I just feel like nothing happened lol.
Friends to Lovers is just honestly very much something that either works for me or it’s something I hate and this just didn’t work for me.

I love Emily Henry and thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the town. I loved seeing Daphne grow as a person after being betrayed by her fiancé.
I truly feel like, even though Miles was great, this should have been not a romance. I liked the story about Daphne and her growth and amazing friendships. I loved everything about the book except for them being together romantically. I always felt like he was the type who would go back to his ex if she wanted him back. He was working through that, which is great, but I also felt like I didn’t trust him to be the right person romantically for Daphne. I think he made a better friend and person to make her fall in love with the town.
I’m bothered by the third act miscommunication/issue/breakup and I just.. idk I feel underwhelmed.
I can’t pinpoint why I feel like they are wrong for each other, maybe I feel like they were both doing too much healing from both childhood issues and the whole issue with Peter and Petra, feelings of abandonment and also disappointing others.. I truly just wanted Daphne to grow but for it to have not been tied in with a romantic relationship maybe. I didn’t like the way it all somehow improved and was tied together..
I enjoyed just about every aspect of the book, otherwise!

This sounds extremely YA and I feel like I did research and this isn’t a YA and yet reviews all seem to have the vibe… I don’t want to read another adult fantasy that is actually YA in disguise. I’m not in the mood.

Switched to the print/ebook version because the audiobook narrator imo was awful. I just could not, no matter how fast or slow I adjusted the speed.
