Every Last Breath by Jennifer L. Armentrout

I’m so heartbroken this series is over. I loved these books so so much. It’s impossible for JLA to write a bad book.
I love these characters. Layla’s progression throughout the books was so enjoyable to watch. I was great to watch her gain self-confidence and reach her true potential.
The love triangle was definitely more common in this book. However, the dreaded decision Layla has to make occurs fairly early on in the book. That made me happy because it didn’t feel dragged out. It allowed the relationship with the chosen hero to revolve throughout the book.
I do wish we saw more of Stacey in this book because she’s a huge part of Layla’s human life. If she wasn’t written into any of the books, I don’t think her missing would make any difference. Which is a shame because she’s such a funny character. I feel like everyone would enjoy the story more if she had a bigger part to play.
My main criticism would be that the ending felt very anticlimactic. I can't say too much because I don't want to give away any spoilers, but it just left me feeling a little flat. Like is that it? Both the first two books ended up on massive cliffhangers so I think I was expecting abit more.
Overall though I love this series! I would 100% recommend you pick these books up. Just make sure you have the next one available before finishing because the cliffhangers are intense.

I was disappointed with this book. Everyone has been saying how much they enjoyed it but i just didn’t like it as much as I thought I would.
I feel like this book was unnecessarily long. I enjoyed the first half of the book but then started to get bored. It felt like nothing was really happening.
I ended up picking up another book at 65% and then when I finished that, I just didn’t want to come back to it. I did end up finishing though but mainly because I hate to DNF. I pretty much skimmed the last 15%.
This is the sort of book where you read it for the spice rather than the plot (there was 0 plot). I like books with a good combination of both.
The “touch her and and I’ll kill you” was very common in this book. It started to get a bit irritating after a while. In one chapter three people, at separate times, got beaten up for it…like we get the idea already.
I did like that Roxy (the heroine) stood up for herself. She was a very strong, confident woman which I loved to see. However, some of her comebacks and insults were a little cringy and happened too often. She started to get on my nerves quite a bit towards the end.
When I finally finished this book I was just glad it was over. It took me 15 days to finish it, which is a seriously long time for me.

I have pretty mixed views about this book. Some parts of it, such as the humour, I found brilliant but then other areas just didn’t work.
Firstly, this is a marriage-of-convenience book so the heroine, Emmabelle (Belle), spends the majority of the story pregnant. This was a nice change because we don’t tend to have a lot of these kind of stories. It was also really funny to see Belle experiencing all the different emotions that go along with pregnancy.
Belle was a badass. She was sassy, fierce but also vulnerable. She had the best one liners and didn’t take shit from no one.
The romance in this book didn’t work for me. I don’t really get Belle and Devon as a couple. We didn’t get to see their first hookup as it happened off page years previously. It was a shame because we didn’t get to see their initial chemistry and how it progressed. I would’ve loved to have seen a flashback of that moment because I always think that their first times are one of the most important moments in a romance novel.
The spice was very mild, which was disappointing because her other books have great smut. The scenes might as well have faded into black because they were very rushed and didn’t really offer anything.
I love reading books where a character is from England. I find it so funny seeing the words and phrases the author writes for that character. I promise we never actually speak like that!
Note: Make sure you check trigger warnings.

I appreciate the time and talent that goes in to writing a book and I know that any attempt I might make at writing a book would be awful. I don’t like writing bad reviews because of this but I feel that they need to be said.
If this book wasn’t short and quick to read, then I would’ve DNF.
It’s a shame because the plot and story could’ve been really exciting if it was written well.
I spent the majority of the book confused af. At the start, I just assumed the character was female because the author didn’t make it clear. So when she finally said something that made me realise they were male, I had to go back and reread.
The same happened with the type of paranormal Esmeralda (heroine) was. Again, because the author didn’t make it clear, I assumed she was a witch due to the constant comments on witch covens, when in fact she was a vampire.
The conversations were very disjointed and the story moved on way too quickly. It was like BAM you’re pregnant and then BAM you’ve had the baby.
There were romantic moments between the two MC’s but then the internal 1st person thoughts would turn really vulgar and just ruined the moment.
When the moment was right, the spice was really good but when it wasn’t, it just made me uncomfortable.
The ending was good. It left me wondering what might happen next but honestly, I was just glad it was finally over.

DNF at 38%. I just couldn’t bring myself to continue it.
I was confused at the start about what kind of character Danny was. He was an asshole and then suddenly he wasn’t. Then he was an asshole again. The changes were too abrupt and felt unnatural.
I did like the authors writing style. I can totally see her as a well published romcom author in the future.
Thank you to NetGalley and Sonia Palermo for this e-ARC.

It’s official. I’m obsessed with Aaron Blackford.
How does an author manage to make me physically attracted to someone when I don’t even know what they look like?!
Aaron was such a gentleman which I loved! When they finally hooked up, he kept asking for permission to do certain things. He was so sweet but also really commanding when needed.
My favourite scene in the whole book was the moment after they first hooked up and they were just snuggling in bed. It was such a sweet moment and gave me the warm fuzzies. It was a nice change from other books, which tend to move on to the next day/week straight after they’ve done the deed.
The humour in it was perfect. I really felt like I was part of the inside jokes.
I did find some of the internal dialogue a bit too long and repetitive. I got distracted by other things quite easily so I would’ve liked a bit more speech to break it up.
✦ Tropes included: fake dating, enemies-to-lovers, one bed, slow burn

I really enjoyed this book. It showed great character development and felt really empowering.
Sutton was such a strong character to have gone through what she did, but still have a positive outlook on life and believe that she deserved happiness.
Callahan’s character had so many levels to it but what I loved the most was that Bromberg didn’t follow the usual grumpy/sunshine route by making Callahan a moody billionaire alphahole. Instead he was humorous, determined and emotional.
There was so much sexual tension between the two characters, due to the forbidden element. When they finally hooked up you almost felt as desperate as the characters did. I haven’t read spice that good in a while.
The story felt very realistic. I felt like the romance progressed naturally. But what I loved most was how Sutton was constantly on the phone with her friend (Lizzie), asking for advice and keeping her updated on what was going on. Everyone does this in real life so these scenes felt very relatable.
The start of this book was hilarious. I’ve never read an incident like that before so it really made me laugh. It was a very clever way to start the story.
I will definitely be reading the next book in the series! I’m really excited to know who the other Sharpe brothers are going to be partnered up with because there were no clues.
Note: check trigger warnings.
✦ Tropes: Billionaire alpha, boss & employee, forced proximity, destination romance, one-night stand
