The Silent Wife by Karin Slaughter
dark
tense
Karin Slaughter writes dark, brutal, and often violent thrillers, with flawed characters that feel very real. That hasn't changed since I began reading her books over a decade ago, but my perspectives have. Even though this book examines dirty or "gray" policing, it's still pro-cop. The violence against women in this book should also come with content warnings: rape, murder, mutilation, drugging, stalking, domestic violence. It's a look into the deepest, darkest part of society that explores the many kinds of trauma people go through. Not a book for everyone, but a book that kept me reading.

An interesting exploration of language and cults. Appreciated the compassion and empathy for people who have been in cults (of all kinds) and the reminder that no one is immune.
