The Silent Wife by Karin Slaughter

dark tense
Karin Slaughter writes dark, brutal, and often violent thrillers, with flawed characters that feel very real. That hasn't changed since I began reading her books over a decade ago, but my perspectives have. Even though this book examines dirty or "gray" policing, it's still pro-cop. The violence against women in this book should also come with content warnings: rape, murder, mutilation, drugging, stalking, domestic violence. It's a look into the deepest, darkest part of society that explores the many kinds of trauma people go through. Not a book for everyone, but a book that kept me reading.
