I mean it’s got a chapter riffing off ‘Magnus rushes in’; what more can you want???

This book is also a salutary lesson to me that I should always have at least one work related text on my kindle as a ‘just in case’, since I read it when I was working away from home (in an open plan office where surprisingly, I didn’t actually feel the need to kill anyone as a result)

I picked up this book on a whim and I'm really glad I did! I've been a fan of Critical Role for like 5 years, and this book helped me learn more about TTRPG culture as a whole, as well as why such a large fan culture has grown around it. It didn't use too much academic jargon, and it helped illuminate certain aspects of TTRPG fandom that make the experience so unique, such as the improvisational nature of the stories and the multiple authors of every TTRPG experience.
Some standout essays include the one about knitting, as well as the essay about audience participation in The Adventure Zone and how it shaped representation of certain characters, like Taako's sister.
