First and least satisfying of the Sherlock books. But is is a nice simple introduction to the characters. Did not really need the Salt Lake City tangent in the middle of the book as it took me out of the dreary London fun.

I was shocked by how much I enjoyed this book. I will definitely be reading more. I was a bit taken aback when they switched to the western setting but once I realized it was the back story I really enjoyed that as well. I like Sherlock as a character too, he wasn't nearly as off putting as people have made him out to be. He seems to be brash and blunt but definitely not mean.

Not as gripping as some of the Sherlock Holmes books I've previously read, so took me a bit longer to get through, but enjoyable all the same.
It did take a frankly embarrassing amount of time to realise the relevance of the Mormonism tangent.

Loved the first 40% of the book, then found the next 40% to be absolute drudgery. The ending was entertaining, but by the time we got there, I had been beaten over the head with who the killer was and why...so having it wrapped up so charmingly by our good Dr. Watson was a bit of an anticlimax.
