This is the third book in the DCI Tom Douglas series; however, it stands alone easily. The happenings in Tom’s life are pretty minor in the grand scheme of the book and explained well enough that the reader will know what’s going on with him.

This is one of those mysteries that’s hard to review without accidentally giving something away. I can say that I found this book to be very suspenseful. There are a couple of minor mysteries in addition to the central mystery of what happened to Olivia. One in particular was easy to figure out but I didn’t mind because I was still engrossed in the main plotline. Parts of the book were repetitive and it could have been trimmed down a bit. However, the twists, especially the big one at the end, were very clever and outweighed my minor criticisms.

I listened to the audio version of this book. The book takes place in the UK so the narrators have British accents, which I love to listen to. Tom was voiced by a man and the main female character was voiced by a woman, which was the right choice. The hard part about listening to a compelling mystery on audiobook is that I want to stay in garage and keep listening even after I’ve come home! (I listen to the books while I’m driving.) I’d like to read the other books in this series and see if the mysteries contained in them are as good as the one in Sleep Tight.

2 stars for falling flat after a too-early reveal.

For around the first third of this book, I was hooked. But by the half way mark most of the mystery had been revealed, and it became little more than a waiting game until an info dump at the very end that was supposed to be a plot twist but which unfortunately fell very flat. At first I was interested in Olivia's plight, but her chapters soon became incredibly repetitive and there really wasn't much incentive to continue after the surprisingly early revelation about the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

With regard to the other characters, I liked the cops on the case, especially Becky, but Tom's side story about his dead brother and a break in at his cottage was simply a teaser designed to get you to read the next book, and went absolutely nowhere in this one. The book was also in the habit of occasionally having a POV chapter from a random character where it seemed like the author couldn't come up with another way to give us the information she wanted us to have. The writing itself was serviceable but dull.

It wasn't a bad book per se, but after a promising start I was left disappointed and it was a slog to get through the latter half.

By far my favorite book in this series. Clever, fast-paced, with lots of twists and turns I definitely did not expect!

Really enjoyed this book! A novel that makes you think you have everything figured out bit then there's a whole lot more to the story than meets the eye. Definitely recommend.

I would give this 3.5 * - it was a good read, a little "Gone Girl"-esque. It wasn't as clever or written as well, but kept me entertained. I was hoping for a little more closure on some backstory/characters, but I see some characters are in other books, so I will check them out.

This was free on Amazon Prime, so for free, I recommend :)

What can I say about this book? I read the previous two by Abbott and really enjoyed them, giving them both 5 stars. If I could give this book more stars I would. Olivia is a mother and a trapped woman. When the love of her life and father of her daughter leaves, she seeks comfort with a knight in shining armour, having more children in the process, lovely angelic cherubs. Sounds great yes, the ultimate tale of loss and love.

Think again. From the first chapter, which slaps you in the face, you are reeled into the book and the intricate web is woven around you. Robert, the knight, is absolutely chilling, the ultimate control freak with the mask of a loving father and long suffering husband.

My favourite part of this book is the clever use of points of view, I will not spoil it, but when you read it, you will understand. This is the best yet from Rachel Abbott, and I wait with salivation her 4th book, which I imagine will be truly epic.

Read it now, you will not be disappointed.

I went into this story ignoring the 1* reviews and excited by the over 2k 5*. I do want to admit that I was hooked from the beginning. The mystery of who did what had me. But at about 30% it was very clear what was happening. No mystery or mind thrilling at all. And that sad attempt at a love story with the cop? Very boring and like the attempted scandal w the cops partner, irrelevant. Seriously, how did that distraction contribute to the overall story? Another dissapointing thing was the back and forth between 3rd and 1st POV. Really? It distracted the crap out of me and disconnected me from the characters 100% I didn't need to read the story told by the narrator and then by the actual character again. I continued to read expecting a better story or a crazy turn of events but nope! Nothing. Sadly it was a very dull story

2 stars

This book had a good start but it went downhill fast. I think there are mainly two aspects that make it a 2 stars one.
First of all it is extremely predictable, what you suspect in chapter 3 is what's going to happen all the way to chapter 63. Baffling to see the police so very blind to the obvious.
Secondly, the main character Olivia, is , sorry to be so blunt, but's she's stupid. The things she didn't see for soooo long. Unreal.
