Interesting to read the whole thing, will say im not the biggest fan of his general view of what art seeks to do, but its an interesting read for sure.

Aristotle's analysis of tragedy and a response to Plato's discussions on poetry. A short and surprisingly insightful read from the master Greek logician.

I first read Poetics for my undergrad in theatre arts fourteen years ago. This time round, I was surprised at how much I garnered when approaching the text from a different artistic perspective. However, the translation in the Dover Thrift Edition is similarly on the cheap side. If you're studying Poetics as part of a formal course of education, I recommend you source a different, reliable edition/translation, such as the version included in The Norton Anthology of Theory and Criticism.

After reading fiction, poetry, and seeing plays for so many years, the ideas in Poetics seem so familiar. It is easy to forget that it was written and attributed to Aristotle many centuries ago.

Every writer should read this, because a lot Aristotle's rules for good writing are still on point after 2,300 years.

This dude was so clearly a STEM student trying to write an english paper and it like KINDA works until he tries to use “tragedy math” to make women inferior to men and justify slave labor. Other than that, he explains storytelling well and uses great examples from greek mythology/history
