The book was very scientific and dry, not really compelling for a story standpoint, although still very interesting.

I really wanted to love this but it was just too long and disorganized. You can't possibly put an entire life into a memoir which is what was maybe attempted here. Even though the author has an incredible resume and even though I loved certain sections of the book, it just needs major editing.

A love letter to trees: part memoir, part ecology/climate change primer, part condemnation of the white male boys’ club in science. I am grateful to women of Dr. Lowman’s generation who made it easier for women of my generation to pursue professions in science.

Meg Lowman seems to be both the more interesting and most boring person in the world. Not only has she participated in some of the most incredible field work I've ever heard of; she was also once (only once mind you) sent to the naughty chair by her children for saying a swear word. Crazy!
The chapter in which she throws shade at her former mother-in-law was hilarious.
This is a very poorly written book, but I'm giving it a relatively high rating due to the subject matter and incredible things ML has done in her life.

I mean this in the nicest way but this book should not have been as interesting as I found it. It's a little second level science, not for casuals. But now I will remember water bears, Ethiopian Christian forest conservation, eco tourism as an alternative to logging, climbing trees is accessible to wheelchairs, an entire ecosystem at the top of the trees that has not been studied and how men still suck at higher ed institutions.
