I had a little bit of a difficult time following it, but I really liked the watercolors and want to know what happens next.

Insanely beautiful artwork makes an otherwise conventional story stand out.

I really liked the art in this. It's very stylised and "sketchy", so it's not going to be for everyone, but I loved it and thought it added to the atmosphere of the story.

The story itself was okay. It was entertaining enough, and I'll read the rest of the volumes, but it wasn't anything special. Lots of arch types and shallow characterisation and shallower plot.

Kindt and Jenkins create an interesting story about three brothers trying to protect what they believe is theirs. There are many shades of legal gray in this and its not easy to determine just who is right. There are some mysteries and plenty of fights that keep the story moving very quickly. Jenkins art fits the book well but was a little too loose at times. Overall, the book was a really good read.

Offers names, faces, stories, and empathy for those who exist on the fringes of society--intentionally so, in this case. Engaging and compassionate, thoughtful and gritty. With really wonderful artwork. I enjoyed it.

I am a Kindt fan from when I read Mind MGMT, and was excited to dive into Grass Kings. The first volume is good, very solid story telling, and enough intrigue with the characters to compel the reader to speculate on where the story is going to go and end up.
There were some flash back scenes in reference to the chunk of land the story takes place on/at, and I hope that it will be explained as to why this area has such a rich history. Or it may be that Matt is just saying things happen all the time, and time marches on and people who live there have no memory of that past, and we all know what happens if you can't recall and learn from the past.
Looking forward to reading Vol 2 and 3 that I have (well, am borrowing).

The art is fantastic. The story is good, dark, but good. Worth reading on.

Ok, the grass kingdom is populated by a tight knit community of self-sufficient separatists. It seems to have been populated by murderous cranks since before recorded history. What do they have against the outside world? Why does the outside world seem to be against them? Is it an island or a peninsula? Volume 1 doesn’t answer any of those questions. It’s interesting, but not that interesting.

The art was a little too fuzzy for me.

I didn’t dislike it, but I am not in a rush to read volume 2.
