8 reasons why books need to stay books and Buzzfeed listicles need to stay Buzzfeed listicles and they shouldn't go and try to copy each other's concepts (reasons that also simultaneously sort of tell what the book is about)
1. okay, so your father is gay, and you need a whole book to get over that fact, good for you, wow, I have so many other things to do in this open & tolerant 21st century society then panic and rant about my gay dad
2. okay, so you're in love with a manic pixie dream girl because you're a teenager and 20 pages into the book, it's pretttty clear where that story line will be going
3. except I need to read 600+ pages of listicles first
4. at least half of which the book could have done without
5. seriously, dude, enough with the listicles already
6. no one cares in what order you eat the cookies you bought, just so you could make a listicle named Cookies In The Order In Which I Ate Them and then attach to each cookie a completely unrelated rambling about one of your Gigantic Teenage Problems that you might as well NOT HAVE WRITTEN AS A LISTICLE but as a normal chapter in a normal book
7. okay, so you play bass in a very mediocre rock band that's never going to go anywhere
8. okay and then suddenly the book is done.
3 ways I need to say goodbye to this book right now
1. okay book
2. bye now
3. see you NEVER

I could see myself recommending this to an older teen boy, maybe a bit of a reluctant reader since the book is easily digestible in its list form. Didn't love it or hate it.

Me Being Me Is Exactly as Insane as You Being You was a pretty awesome book. I will admit that about half way through things started to lull but only for a second. I think we have all begun to expect this book full of crazy twists and turns and I found it refreshing to hear from a main character that was seriously just trying to grow up, while trying very hard to survive the ups and downs of dealing with lots of family drama. The last few set of lists really made the book wonderful and Darren was such a likable, relatable character for anyone who has grown up. It moved quickly though, I loved the lists and the characters. Overall, it was a very meaningful, fluid novel hidden behind the strict demeanor of lists.

This book has a lot of potential to be good. It really did. But, in an un-ironic format, I present to you 3 Main Things I Disliked About This Novel
1. The Representation of People.
A. Every single main character in this novel could have been better. Or maybe it's just the fact that Darren sucked as a narrator. But Zoey didn't feel real at all to me. She felt like some vapid, misrepresentation of some girl I had read about before. Nate was just there as some excuse for Darren to escape his problems which, if he actually dealt with them and went to therapy LIKE HIS DAD FREAKING BEGGED HIM TO THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRETY OF THIS ENTIRE NOVEL BUT HE WROTE IT OFF ALMOST EVERY SINGLE TIME BECAUSE THERAPY IS DUMB, ACCORDING TO DARREN, he could have been able to be a mature, young adult who doesn't make dumb and ignorant comments about gay people and other things. Then Nate was just an annoying kid who should have shoved off from the very beginning bc he is such a terrible influence on him. His mom could have been more there for him but work was more important and ugh that's so annoying. His dad was probably the only decent character in this book (and Ray too but he was just some kind of spirit floating in the background that didn't do much). Also, I have no idea still why Darren is a vegetarian. It's like all of the characters of the book just seem to agree on this fact for no reason. Also, if you're a vegetarian, all animal meat is off limits, right? If that is, in fact the case, why is it that Darren says "At least this restaurant that I'm at has a good fish sandwich". That's dumb! There is some more lines like that but like I don't have the strength or the energy to find them.
2. The Lists Themselves.
A. I promise this point won't be as long as the last one but the majority of the lists could have been cut out like the one where it lists how many months had passed btw the last page and the next at certain parts. Also, they weren't lists, I guess, at least, in the conventional sense. They just dragged on and on and on (much like this review) and they didn't really need to.
3. The Point of this story
A. I don't even know what the point of this story was. What the heck did I get out of this book? Some whiny teenager who should have gone to therapy to deal with his parents divorce and his dad being gay throughout the entire length of the novel. Some girl who was broken and dude had to fall in love with her even though he barely knew about her, just the fact that she drew on his arm and she kissed his ear and crap. Yeah. I'm so done with this book. The only good thing I probably got out of it was some song recs which I have put in a playlist and will listen to at some point.

Because of my work on the Stonewall Book Award committee, I cannot publish my opinions of this or other books with LGBT themes. I will update my reviews after the announcement of the 2016 Stonewall Awards.

This book was terrible, and frankly a waste of my time! I found all of the characters to be annoying... ALL of them are so unlikable. I don't understand why some of the "lists" are even in the book, and how sometimes the list aren't even in order. There's little sense of time or pacing, and of course lack of details. It felt like part rip off of John Green's "Paper Town" and part "most ridiculous names a list can actually have, and ways it can also be extended, so the reader has to read more, but only ends up reading like 20 words or less in the actual list itself" see I can do it to, but it's obviously not going to be a book.

Ok. There were so many things about this book that I loved. I loved the lists, I loved the ending and how everything just seemed to make sense and worked, and I loved how real it was. There were points where I was frustrated with the character and annoyed with him and the plot. But that's what happens in real life isn't it? This book was good. The end more than the beginning for me. But still. I loved reading it and would definitely recommend it!

Certainly an interesting book, but I kept waiting for something MORE to happen. A book written in lists is a first for myself, and the concept was quite intriguing but sometimes difficult to follow.

I couldn't put this book down. I loved the idea of the book being written entirely in lists and I thought it worked great for this book! The only real problem I had with this book is how he reacts to his dad's big news, but that might just be because I would have reacted differently.
