Having two twisted but sympathetic individuals collide with opposing plans but similar wants was enthralling. I was rooting for both and the descriptions made my stomach churn. I felt bad for both characters and could understand what they were feeling. Murakami knew what they were doing!

a relatively short story that kept me on the edge of my seat. the novel floats between two points of view that are happening simultaneously, showcasing the significance of each character's perspective. an examination of how trauma and mental health issues push humans to some of the darkest corners imaginable and, yet, we are never alone in that experience.

really enjoyed the pacing and build of of the story. Was sucked in and finished 90% of the book  in 2 days. Fir the most part, this book was exactly what I was expecting and wanted

But I found the ending extremely underwhelming.

I didn't like this one nearly as well as Audition. That being said, it is a good read for anyone seeking a dark and twisted story. I really could not guess where it was going, even up to the last few pages.

i really enjoyed this read although i did think it was going to be a bit more gorey. once I realized it was less slasher and more psychological it really really grew on me. the characters are insane but i kind of love them ? they are NOT loveable. they need sever psychiatric help. but i love them.

Most of the time reading it felt like a good true crime podcast. You know, not one of those where two white ladies are horny for a serial killer, but one of those that dives into the psyche of the killer, and are factual and non-speculative about the murders.

I really enjoyed the dual one-sided mental battle between Kawashima and Chiaki, clearly stating the needs of two very broken people.

I found this book in a box of second-hand books given to me by a colleague of mine. I knew nothing about it before reading, which was both good and bad. I'm extremely squeamish and don't typically read texts that are as horrifically violent as this one and I definitely found myself feeling dizzy at points. However, I did like the relationship between the main characters - two traumatized/depraved individuals finding their match in an unexpected way. If you are considering this, my advice is to definitely read the content warnings before doing so!
