2.75 Stars - pushing, but still not quite to 3 stars.

I have to roll my eyes every time one of the characters calls another a slut/hoe/hag and every time they berate drinking/smoking - not that I think it's okay for high school age girls to be doing any of the above, mind you. I assume the authors are trying to send a positive message to the age group these books target, which is great. But it's so blatant that it's hard to take seriously.

I also wonder, if the authors are intent on this message, why do they give their heroine not one, not two, but three "boyfriends." Not only does she have three boyfriends, but one of them is
Spoilera teacher who she looses her virginity to after making it obvious she wanted to stay a virgin!
There are definitely some conflicting messages going on there.

As far as the characters go, some are more well developed than others. Aphrodite and Neferet are definitely my favorites. I'm really liking Aphrodite as she emerges as more of a main character, and I can't wait to see how that evolves in the next few books. But there are some characters ("The Twins" specifically) - that don't seem to add anything to the story.

The authors have said that they wanted to sound like teenagers in these books, and boy did they succeed. I think, however, a happy medium between an omg-obnoxious-teenager and a normal teenager would have gone a long way.

For me, House of Night is like watching a train wreck. I'm entralled by the story, and I want to know what happens next. But the writing just doesn't do it for me.

The same issue as with the first two in the series are still present (homophobia, misogyny, slut-shaming and Christianity bashing) and they still bother me. I also seem to finally really notice, and became annoyed by, the random capitalization that runs rampant in this series, more so in this book. Plus there are so many things repeated, verbatim, throughout this series that you really could make it a drinking game. I mean, is it really necessary to go over, and over the events of the last book several times or to tell us, again, in the 3rd book of the series, that "the twins" aren't really biological twins or that Damian is totally gay (not that there is anything wrong with that)? Trust me, if I'm reading the 3rd book in the series, I already know these things.

That said, I finished this one it two days (probably would have been 1 if I hadn't had to work) and I just can not seen to put this series down despite the horribleness of it and I can't even explain it!

Puhh... What a ride.
Das ist wirklich nicht gut gealtert.

Red flags all the way!
- Beste Freunde hin.
Aaaber let's circle back to the BOYS!
- Back to the Boys!

Another interesting story in the House of Night series. I love that Zoey is willing to put aside rivalries to try and save Stevie Rae. Looking forward to reading Untamed next.

Well, what the fuck did you expect, Zoey?

Spoiler Stevie Rae gets hidden in the house of Aphrodite. Aphrodite is the only one who knows about it. Zoey fucks up with her friends who discover all her secrets and are mad as hell that she didn't say anything. She lost her virginity to Loren, that broke the imprint between Heath and her and they got discovered by Eric so they break up (obviously) but then Loren gets killed. They save Stevie Rae though.

In this one the character makes some really stupid mistakes, but when I stopped an thought about it, I would have made the same mistakes at her age. It makes the mistakes more painful.

These truly are so bad and so cheesy, but they’re a guilty pleasure I guess.
