Chosen is the third book in the House of Night series by PC Cast, and while it does have its moments of emotional depth and entertainment, it also falls a bit flat with predictability and pacing issues.
On the positive side, the book does continue to develop the characters in ways that are engaging, especially Zoey, who is navigating her role at the House of Night with both strength and vulnerability. The emotional beats in this book land well, and there are moments where you can really feel the weight of Zoey’s relationships and the turmoil she’s facing. The bond between the characters, including the romantic tensions, continues to keep things interesting and entertaining.
However, there are a few issues that held me back from fully enjoying this installment. For one, the plot is often predictable, with few surprises or twists that kept me on the edge of my seat. Many of the events feel like they follow a formula, and I found myself anticipating what would happen next more often than not. Some of the significant events in the story also feel like they happen too quickly, with little build-up or tension leading up to them. This made parts of the book feel rushed and underdeveloped, which is unfortunate given the potential for deeper exploration.
Overall, while Chosen remains an enjoyable read for fans of the series, it's not as strong or compelling as the previous books. It’s still entertaining and emotionally charged, but I think it could have benefited from a more thoughtful pace and fewer predictable elements.

So much happened in this story! What a turning point for the plot, I can't even wrap my head around it but the adults in this book are disgusting!
The pacing was great, keeping me entertained and the characters were messy in the best way.
I'm looking forward to seeing how Zoey comes back from this but I'm hoping she does a bit of soul searching first.

“He leaned back a little, not taking his arm from around me, but looking into my eyes. “You’re changing, Zoey. And I’m not sure what you’re changing into.”"
Still absolutely devouring this series. I feel that this book is really the catalyst to big events that are going to happen, and even though it does feel like a bit of filler, it is still so full of plot that it doesn't really matter. It still made me smile and giggle quite a few times.
