***These are my random thoughts after finishing the book for me to save as personal notes (because I can't see an option to make my review private). Some of the thoughts are an overall review of the book, or any questions/feelings that nagged at me throughout. There will almost definitely be spoilers. Read at your own risk.***

Another super smart-weird-quirky-gorgeous kids at prestigious school book (but not a bad one)
Whole book felt kinda like a daze
Theo I'm disappointed in you
Rip Billie Jean

ARC from NetGalley and Custom House in exchange for an honest review...
I honestly have no idea what I read for 10 days. I have a very hard time DNFing books, but this one got dangerously close. I never felt like the story ever kept momentum. At points I was like, okay, and then nothing. It was not my kind of story. It didn’t feel gothic, it felt like someone was trying too hard. I wish the author would have explained at least one part clearly! Such a bummer!

*Warning: Generalized Plot Spoilers*
Ines is running from a haunting past by fleeing to Catherine House, an alternative to college, an experience that feels magical and metaphysical. All is heavily steeped in mystery, and the more Ines discovers, the more she is in danger of losing herself. I loved the writing style, the descriptions alone were poetry, a love letter to the craft of writing; I, however, didn't care for this particular story. The mystery kept me reading, and I'm glad I read it, but I wish it had been either set in a regular college and dealt with Ines's past in a normal setting, (and the consequences), or otherwise ramped up the intrigue, danger, and uncertainty about Catherine House tenfold, with more stakes for Ines.

4.5. It took a while for the languid pace to draw me in, but then I loved the almost hypnotic nature of it which matched the drawing in of Ines. I was left a little unsatisfied by the conclusion and wished I were in a book club so I could have someone to discuss with

This book was fun to read. It felt like a fever dream. I liked the dreamy writing style and the way the ending is left open to interpretation.
