I white-knuckled it through this short story/essay collection! Duras is a very famous French novelist and I think I needed to have the context of her work to truly appreciate this (which I did not)

She sees writing as this solitary act of pure iconoclasm, which,,,,,,,,,,,,, does not ring true to me at all, but that's ok for her I guess

There were some gems in here and the reading experience was certainly bridging on transcendent. That said, it was convoluted in parts and honestly quite depressing in others. I reject the idea that you must be a lonely alcoholic to be a successful writer. I appreciate her honesty and clear disregard for the writing rules, but this wasn’t my favorite. Honestly, I feel a bit like I just didn’t “get it”.
