Thoughts: This was great and I was loving it until about half way through. There was another half of the book where literally NOTHING HAPPENED. They went shopping, ate meals, woke up and went to sleep and all had everyday conversations that I did not need to waste my time reading. Kept going in hopes of something else happening but nope. If I wanted to read about people living uneventful lives I'd just write a diary and re-read it.

I enjoyed this story a lot just didn't love it.
I do enjoy a good second chance romance but the elapsed time kills me. The 12 year gap could have very easily been avoided.
Lily doesn't show up for her wedding and then Adam skips town. Every mistake adds up and is explained well. Hello telephone? Lily tried to find Adam but with his mom standing in her way, she fails. I get that Lily has been thought a lot and was caring for a new baby but I feel like she just should have done more to find him. And his brothers - they could have so easily helped Lily and Adams reunion -
Max I adore. His spirit is just unbreakable.
All in all a good book.

BookTok strikes again!
Adam & Lily were high school sweethearts, about to get married. But on the eve of their wedding, tragedy strikes and they’re separated, each told a different version of the events. Adam leaves town, with little communication home.
Twelve years later, Adam is back. Secrets are revealed, hearts are mended, HEA.
Meh. It was fine. I found Adam’s family to be just terrible, and the same with Lily’s mother. Some things are just unforgivable. Adam is okay as the MMC. I didn’t get a good sense for him as a man. And Lily is just…boring.
No third act breakup or dramatics, which is fine, but it was missing some conflict. Also, not closed door, but might as well have been.

Cute Story!
What a cute story. It sucks how they ended up in the beginning, from the tragedy then to the lies being told.
But man, Lily & Adam are sweet as can be. And Max, the love they have for him makes you teary eyed.
Highly recommend!

Wendy Smith also writes books under the name Ariadne Wayne, so I knew I was in for a good an interesting and involving read. I wasn't disappointed and loved this story. It can be read as a stand alone and does NOT have a cliff-hanger ending. It may make you cry - I did almost from the off!
Her characters are not only well developed and rounded, but are down to earth, massively likeable (if not loveable) and so very real. The story is narrated in the first person by both Adam and Lily. This allowed me to get to 'know' both characters and understand them, as well as to find out how they felt and what they thought. Their reactions, dialogue and emotions are all genuine and real.
Max and the other supporting characters are also well written, and again are normal and believable. As this is book 1 in a series I am hoping to see some of the brother's feature in future books.
I was hooked into the story immediately and found it difficult to put down. The book is so much more than your typical contemporary romance. The two main characters have a lot of issues to work through, and a lot of truths to uncover. These issues are woven through the story so well.
Another thing I love about this author is that she doesn't follow the generic formulae of so many contemporary romances. The fall in love, huge break up, get back together, HEA formula is not the basis of this book. This is so much more than that, it is a really well written story that isn't rushed or unrealistic but that takes you heart and soul on a journey of love, forgiving and hope.
If you love a good romance, and especially if you are tired of the same old, same old, then I highly recommend this book to you.
