I received an ARC copy of this book from Edelweiss

Absolutely loved this! It took me a second to remember what exactly was going on and warm up to the story again but once I did I was once again swept up in the story. This volume once again has plenty of action as well as some escalation in the will-they-won't-they bickering between the two main characters, but also introduces some new info about the world and why exactly Charlie has been targeted by such a large REAPR campaign. Also I would just like to formally thank whoever decided to give Vita so much short sleeved / sleeveless outfits in this volume, I will be thinking about her arms for weeks <3

2020 Eisner Award Finalist - Best Continuing Series

After the bonkers ending to Volume 1, this volume takes a breather to focus on the relationship between Charlie and Vita, although there's still plenty of action. It's a queer version of Thelma & Louise, mixed with doses of Mission: Impossible and Fast & Furious. There also continues to be lots of commentary on the pitfalls of our modern online economic society, ranging from online security to online commerce. I like how this series is not just a one-note symphony. This is the kind of graphic story that Hugo Award voters should nominate.

The continued violent and comedic adventures of Charlie and Vita. The real strength of the story is the relationship between Vita and Charlie and how it constantly evolves as they get to know more about each other on the one hand, and the constant friction between them on the other.

I’m usually not someone to enjoy graphic novels but I picked this one up anyways since the premise sounded amazing. And I’m so glad I did! I absolutely loved this!

The art style is amazing and each panel contains so many details it feels like watching a movie. But not only the art was worth 5 stars, the story line itself as well.
This whole concept is super fun and one big futuristic bloody mess. I loved the characters humor and their gayness. And the action scenes were so well done!
Super fun, quick read.

I desperately need someone to turn this into an animated movie just like Nimona. Can’t wait to read Volume 2 & 3.

This was not as fun as the first volume but I still enjoyed it. Still recommend and still plan to stay with it.

Still fun at times, but a significant departure from the first volume. This one gets bogged down in relationship drama that isn't that interesting. It kind of feels like a CW superhero show in that way. I don't care about the romantic plot and that hurts since it is just pages upon pages of repetitive stuff with no real plot advancement.

All this said, issue/chapter 9 is fantastic and worth the read. Great art and finally a clever character moment from Charlie.

This volume collects issues #7-12 of 17.

Crowded maintains the quality and enjoyment level for me in this volume.
More of Vita’s backstory gets revealed
(she used to be a secret service agent, until a protection detail went very wrong).
There’s also Circe, a green-haired assassin obsessed with Vita.

Oh, also Vita and Charlie
are fucking. Like, a lot.

There’s a lot of funny and bombastic shenanigans in this volume, but there’s also a development of the emotional stakes, and the ending - with the
break-up
and Vita’s conversation with young cult-leader Ophelia - really hit hard.

…

Also, Vita is hella hot in a tank top. I’m such a sucker for a masc muscular woman.

2.5 stars?

I sped through the end of this because I can't remember the last time I watched a couple get together and I really, really didn't want them to.

I cannot stand Charlie.

Look, I don't like romance in general. 9/10, I don't like that couples you see most commonly exist of one partner who takes care of the other and one partner who exists just to make the other person's life difficult. Vita was hired to protect Charlie and all Charlie does is lie about the bad things she's done and make stupid, selfish choices that lost Vita her home, her car, and nearly got her killed several times. In this book, Charlie sabotages Vita's relationship with Jo - the one person in this book that actually cares for Vita and tries to help her.

I don't like Charlie as a character. As I was reading this, I hated that she kept trying to guilt Vita because Vita (very rightfully) didn't trust her and kept trying to figure out why so many people want Charlie dead. She was just annoying, selfish and needy. I realized that a big part of why I hate Charlie as a character is that this book doesn't do the work the Good Place did to make Eleanor Shellstrop likable. Charlie and Eleanor are somewhat similar in that their series starts where they're suffering the consequences of a life spent only looking out for number one. Eleanor ends up in hell, Charlie ends up with a 1 million dollar bounty. Only the Good Place has Eleanor realize she's been a bad, selfish person and she takes steps to improve herself. She helps the people like Chidi, Jason and Tahini as they help her improve as a person. She becomes someone worthy of a second chance.

Charlie does not.

She continues to make the same mistakes, lead Vita and Dog into more danger and then she complains when bad things happen as a result and people don't trust her. I just kept hoping Vita would finally just leave. I really hate when one character keeps trying to help a selfish, self centered person - especially when it's to their own detriment.

SpoilerAnyway, I was interested in Circe's backstory. I don't know if it was a federal legislation but there was a law passed recently to regulate how influencers can make money off of their kids. It's a dark side of influencer culture where their children appear to just exist for photos to get more hits and advertising campaigns on instagram and YouTube. I don't follow mommy bloggers so I don't really have any context for why people find those accounts so interesting?

The art also took a change to make Vita look a lot more masculine which would've been fine if that's how she started, but the last volume wasn't like that. So, I was more confused than anything else.

I just found myself annoyed reading this. I didn't like Charlie in the last volume and that dislike moved up to hate in this one. I can't remember ever rooting against two women to end up together in anything I've ever watched or read but... here we are.
