Midway through the book I realized why I wasn't having a good time.  It's not as though I don't enjoy slice of life stories or the micro analysis of some basic everyday random people living their lives as best they can, but there was nothing that endeared me to the characters at all.

bardzo dobra książka. pięknie uzupełniał mi się obraz, gdy Rooney raz aż boleśnie przybliżała się do bohaterów, żeby potem oddalić się i znów spojrzeć na to, że świat nie kończy się na tej jednej rozmowie, a Ziemiq wciąż się kręci. nie polubiłam nikogo z całej czwórki, ale czuję, bez tak właśnie miało być. widziałam ich takich, jakimi są, niemożliwych do jednoznacznego moralnego ocenienia. i obdarzyłam ich dużą dozą sympatii za te błędy i za ludzkość, zwyczajne człowieczeństwo.

i ach, ten pięknie zachowany balans między rozmyślaniami i refleksjami o rzeczach wielkich, a wątkami relacyjnymi i zawiłościami codzienności, które czasem aż przyćmiewają obraz wszystkiego poza nimi.

i mimo wszystko, smutny obraz współczesnych 30-latków mi się z tego wyłania - bardzo pogubionych, czujących, że zmarnowali życie. ważne dla mnie w kontekście mojego rozumienia świata

Unfortunately pretty underwhelming, even a bit disappointing.
The main characters were boring, the very long emails (beauty? Jesus? bronze age???) were unnecessarily pseudo-deep and don't get me started on the many many many sex scenes that did not bring anything to the story!
I'm a big fan of Conversations with friends and liked normal people very much, but this story lacked the rawness and the effortless flow that I loved so much about Rooney's other novels.
