"These stories are masterfully translated from the original Polish. The force of the language — the beauty, the puns, the made-up jargon — comes through clearly in the English translation."

I have decided that I can't finish this book, I got about half-way through. Though it is slightly funny, the science is just wrong and it bugs me to much. It is broken up into twelve voyages that have nothing to do with each other and I don't care what happens.

Wow! Just wow! This was written in 1966? I actually find it funny that it is all classified as sci-fi, even though the setting suggests so, and there are some futurolgistic things as well. This really is an exploration of humankind, society, transhumanism, totalitarisms, libertarianism, and so many more -isms that it really is mind-boggling how was it possible to fit all of that in such a small book. It's easily the best thing I read this year, although maybe the competition wasn't too strong so far. This book really proves to me that Lem was a genius.

Sometimes silly, sometimes philosophical and always very original. No matter when you are, where you are or how many heads and limbs you (do not) have, this is a very nice read. Brilliant.

One of my favorite books of all time. I loved following along as the main character goes through many adventures exploring the universe, religion, and scientific oddities.

This book was a bit of a challenge to get through. First, it is not one novel but rather a set of vignettes. For my own personal tastes, it would be more easily digested if paired with a short story collection or two, and read interspersed, perhaps reading each after a couple other short stories.

The afterward by the translator in my edition said that Lrm wrote this over twenty years, and I think maybe spreading it out as a reader would be a good idea as well - though maybe not over twenty years!

The vignettes are enjoyable enough and in fact I think they probably influenced some of my favourite sci fi comedy fare. I would wager Douglas Adams read this, as well as various Futurama writers. But unfortunately, this means that the little sci-fi twists didn't impress me very much.

Zabawna i ciekawa.
