2.5~~ “all right” this “all right” that. i couldn’t wait to be done with this book; perhaps i am missing something?

the book does a great job at upholding the title, though, but after a while, it gets so repetitive and gross. bukowski’s perspective, as i’m assuming is seen through his alter ego chinaski, is very… interesting. chinaski is easily the most go-with-the-flow guy, and i, unfortunately, was nowhere near those waters.

bukowski is notoriously well-regarded for depicting the mundane and ordinary with a very unique and realistic poetic style. i’m not sure if this was quite that: it was borderline tacky, but perhaps that’s what makes it endearing. i guess on a deeper level this novel explores a very obvious form of self-destruction—one i definitely cannot relate to, but that has no impact on it’s significance…

I always feel like I've been dirtied after I read him and, I don't know, it's such a strange sensation.
Good book.

Bukowski had the amazing talent to simultaneously give a person hope for the human race, and complete resignation of anything positive ever happening. He gives an unvarnished view to every facet there is to being human. The pettiness, the joy, the ugliness, the lust, the love, the kindness, the hatred…on and on

Women, as the title suggests, focuses on a middle aged writers first opportunity to have as many women as he would like. The result is both sad and exultant, with a steady stream of hangovers.

Pop Sugar Reading List - Ugly Cover. Something Witty Book Club February Selection. I can not actually remember the last time I could NOT finish a book because it was so terrible. I think that the audio version likely makes it ten times worse. I wouldn't consider myself a prude, but after 8 chapters (of 41) the crudeness of this novel made my morning commute unbearable. I'll admit to reading other reviews and talking with other bookclubies to see if it redeems itself, after sufficient research of a big old nope it doesn't improve, I'm calling it quits. But yes I am absolutely including it on my "read" list of the year because of inflicted torture.

Chiniski the great poet, woman slayer, drunk, recluse good guy. This book is a chronicle of his adventures, which I found at moments funny. If you want to read about the life of an eccentric creative then this is your book.
