A good read about a disorder that I think we have all come to be complacent about. As painful as my migraines are, I accept them like they’re a normal pain of life, like stubbed toes or in grown nails. To think of a cure for migraines…

With descriptions vivid enough for me to have to stop reading for a bit, this book really nails it on the head.
Informative, entertaining, and well presented.
This is a good read for migraine sufferers and for those who live with them.

This book was so eye-opening to me. I think if you are a migraine sufferer, this book is a must-read. Especially if you feel like you haven't been heard by your doctors. The conversation Maria had with the doctor who works so hard validating her patient's feelings had me in tears. And I had the same reaction with the realization that, as a child, I was a sufferer of abdominal migraines. I've never heard of this condition until reading this book. Suffering with migraines really can define your life and I didn't realize how much it defines mine until reading this.

Although this book does not offer a solution it does offer solace in knowing that it isn’t just me. I highly recommend this book for both migraine sufferers and the people who love them. I know it’s hard to understand something you don’t experience first hand but this does a really good job of articulating how frustrating it is being a migraine sufferer.

Deeply interesting, and hugely validating, if you ever had migraine in your life this is well worth your time.

I feel seen. No one has expressed migraines to me in this way, and now I feel there are others and we can relate to each other. Reading that 18% of the population also suffer and reading quotes from historic figures made an impact. Author has done her research and wrote a compelling book.
I wish this book included some solutions (there aren’t any, we don’t know enough) or some prevention exercises. But maybe that’s what we are all hoping for.

I've suffered from chronic migraines my whole life and it really is an invisible pain. I felt very seen while listening to this story, absolutely fantastic!

As a lifelone sufferer of migraines, I found this short book to be both interesting and a source of comfort. It's nice to hear from someone else who has similar experiences to me and articulates the pain and frustration that migraines bring. My only criticism would be that I would have liked to have read more from her on this subject.

If you’ve ever suffered from migraines or know someone who does, you need this book. Maria is one of my favorite psychology writers, so I was a little skeptical going into this book because it’s different from her others. Maria surprised the hell out of me with how great this book is, and now I see she can write about just about anything. Personally, I used to suffer from migraines regularly that were so bad that I’d throw up, and now they’re far less frequent. I never understood what was happening or why, and in this short book, Maria breaks it all down. With a blend of her personal experience and a ton of research, Maria explains the history of trying to understand migraines, the treatments, and why it’s so hard to pin down what’s causing them. I learned so much from this book even though it’s such a short read. It’s amazing how much she was able to pack in. I think this will help all migraine sufferers and also help others understand if they have a loved one who suffers from migraines.
