The Partner is a slick thriller but I found it hard to like the protagonist. He's not awful, he's just not very likable. Another issue I had was that everything seemed to be coming together too perfectly that it felt unrealistic. The ending changed course but also failed to satisfy. We were given no reason to anticipate such an ending, though it somehow feels inevitable. Despite this, I still was interested to see how it all played out and I was entertained.

Listened via Audible. A really fun listen! I was hooked from the start and I absolutely loved every second of listening. The ending was beyond frustrating for me, though. In a good way I suppose :)

Certainly not one of Grisham's best books. I have read other books written by him and liked them and because of that, I bought this book. I have been very disappointed. After the first few chapters when it becomes obvious that the central character is a thief, I lost interest. I read this kind of book with an escapist mentality but the plot spoiled it.

I haven't read John Grisham in years, and probably wouldn't have read this except to meet my reading challenge (Best seller from the '90s). "The Partner" is definitely different from the standard 'lawyer' novel.
I stayed totally engaged eager to get to the ending, then... I hated the ending.

Good up until the ending, then it left me feeling like he simply hadn’t decided to finish the story. Rather anticlimactic, but not a bad travel read.

Definitely thrilling, but I didn't care for the ending.

Here's the gist: lawyer fakes his own death and steals 90 million dollars from his firm. This is one of my favorite Grisham novels and probably because it's one of the more cerebral stories. The plot sucks you right in and is very exciting and suspenseful, but once all the little details begin to unfold, you come to understand how thought-out this narrative arc is.
