The perfect book to read drifting in and out of a nap -- heavily symbolic, strange, and untidy. I particularly enjoyed the psychosomatic mother and enigmatic doctor. It has, somehow, been adapted into a movie, which I will obviously watch because I worship at the altar of Deborah Levy.

Loved this, would make a great film. In fact reminds me slightly of The Lost daughter directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal. If you liked that film you'd like this book. Great characters and scenery.

An intriguing book which was often disturbing, sad if not depressing in many ways, but a book I found I needed to finish quickly to see where it landed. I was reminded of the writing of Roberto Bolaño. Overall I found it an excellent book. Very skilful.

The characters were a bit deep for me but I enjoyed it all the same! (Another book about mother/child relationship, seems to crop up all the time!)

Can I give this one a 4.3? It was deeply intriguing and artistic. I loved the setting and all the characters (actually I hated most of them, which I loved). The story was a bit surreal and mysterious in the descriptions of the day to day, so I was really expecting a bit more clarity or shock at the end. Ultimately I think the tone and style stayed true to itself throughout, which is fine by me.
