Really was not interested in this story! This was a TOTAL waste of time!
Watched some of http://www.hbo.com/no1ladiesdetectiveagency/ and still did not find interesting to me!

This is along the same lines as the rest of the No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series in that it's very charming, good, and gives me that nice warm feeling when I've finished.

As always, it's not so much a mystery as an observation on human nature. I'm always a bit surprised that the series has continued to be compelling since this is the ninth entry and they're all fairly mellow books without huge drama.

Definitely recommended to anyone who has read the rest of the series, and to anyone who hasn't I highly recommend picking them up if you're looking for a good story. As always, they're especially good books to read if you brew up some bush tea to sip along with it.

Mr. Smith writes of compassion, human nature, and insightful snippets of daily life that are applicable in any culture. The books and their characters are intertwined from one installment to the next, and leave the reader with happy, peaceful thoughts. I love this series.

This one fleshes out the husband a little more. Entertaining, but not as good as previous books in the series.

These are just so gentle and lovely to listen to...a nice break from listening to the news! They are also perfect for work, with their lack of swearing and violence and sex. I love Mme Ramotswe!

I'm still thoroughly enjoying this series. Every book feels like a mini-vacation to a completely different world. Such sweetness and hope, even though there are bad things and people in the stories. And if you haven't watched the HBO series, I highly recommend it, a very faithful interpretation of the books.

I picked up this book because I had heard good things about the series and because this particular book had "Speedy Motors" in the title. :)

It was nothing special to me. I thought it was a reasonably enjoyable easy read, but I cannot say that I would really recommend it to anyone. There are much better books out there. (My tepid evaluation is not shared by the many other fans of this series, so perhaps the book will work better for you.)

  • Strong character development? No
  • Loveable characters? Yes
  • Diverse cast of characters? Yes
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

I never tire of Mma Ramotswe and her friends.
