Character driven with a well written plot. Excellent pacing of tension, both plot and sexual. This shifter story is unusual in that it by passes the standard myths, like mates instantly recognizing each other, or mates die together. The sensational aspects are more subtle, and frankly less purple. A much more adult approach to shifter mythology, IMHO. Obviously by my rating, I loved it. I'll be reading the rest of the stories in this fine series.

Have I mentioned before that I love Kaje Harper's work? Well I do, and this is another example of why!
She has her own twist on the werewolf lore, pack life and mate bonds which are unique. Her story telling was great, with interesting characters, a little drama, a little humour, and a little action thrown in with romance and hot love scenes.
I liked how Paul and Simon first met — the detail in the vet clinic was informative without being an information dump. I loved how the relationship progressed; even though events happened quickly, they all supported the developing story and feelings.

This book was amazing! I wasn't sure I'd like it, since I'm a bit picky when it comes to paranormal romance novels and the werewolf storyline. Unacceptable Risk was absolutely perfect. The plot was strong and the whole pack dynamic was very intriguing. While I totally loved both Simon and Paul, it was nice to have some interesting secondary characters too. There were certainly a few I wish we'd learnt more about, such as Aaron, Andy & maybe even Zach.
And do I sense a new story, based on Aaron's 'casual' comment at the end? Because I gotta tell ya, that's one story I certainly wouldn't mind reading ;) I'd love a story about Aaron too. He was something of a mystery.
*edit* Okay, I just checked the blurb and noticed that book 2 is Aaron's story, plus it's out this month. I actually squealed out loud. My housemates think I've gone insane. But I don't even care. Squeeeee!! :D

when he mentions pack prejudice towards homosexuality possibly being the result of fear that a werewolf would bond with another werewolf*edit* Okay, I just checked the blurb and noticed that book 2 is Aaron's story, plus it's out this month. This book covers a lot of ground - possibly too much, to be honest. It's basically instalove between a werewolf in a bad situation and an otherwise heterosexual (?) veterinarian, with lots of pack in-fighting and angst. I feel like it could have dropped one of these points to become far more believable and far less complicated. Like, I only just finished the book and thinking back to what happened in the beginning of it is crazy - I don't even know how the author got from Point A to Point Z. That being said, I do like the concept quite a bit, and the plot is pretty decent. Depending on what happens in future books, I'd be willing to continue on with the series.

It took me a little to get into the premise of these werewolves but then I got pretty invested. Love this couple and happy they cameo in other books.
Be warned, Paul being a vet there is a scene where a very bad day in his clinic is described in detail. If the death and injury of pets is a trigger for you, I would skip this. Also there is a fuck or die trope but it's atypical and employed well.

Enjoyed this.
Not a cuddly warm shifter wolf pack, but one with brutal rules to ensure safety - and we get some of that. I’m not a massive shifter reader but got behind this premise.
Simon is bucking the rules- surviving as a gay werewolf, though only just with Karl and his cronies being the high school bullies - apt reference by Simon, though more deadly.
Paul is the human vet who rescues wolf Simon from a Karl attack, who then finds himself attracted to Simon.
So the story has the pack storyline, Paul’s realisation that all emotions are easily boxed and their relationship.

Absolutely fabulous darling!! A great, slightly different take on shifters. I'm definitely going to have to get the rest of the series to see how this relationship goes. Recommended hugely to all who enjoy pnr-shifter romances.
