The boys loved it. Gabe was captivated. Neon played a bit while we read it but still enjoyed it. Bunnymund had some great lines and dialogue that made me laugh at times as well. A great read for folks, young and old.

EDIT// These books make me want to write. Also: What a perfect villain. Terrifying yet sympathetic, somehow suave and witty yet so sad, clearly motivated, clever and cruel... We should all strive to write villains like Pitch.
---
I can't believe how well-crafted these books are. The characterization is amazing (1: I love Nightlight; 2: Pitch's backstory is the saddest thing I have ever read, I almost started crying), for one thing. The structure, foreshadowing, suspense, attention to detail... he full on specifies at one point that North's sword doesn't shine as brightly as it could so that he ISN'T a bright glowing target in the darkness, which is weirdly awesome to me. Like who else would think to note that? Everyone else would probably charge on with their magic sword light powered up to four thousand. And little things that make you go 'oh that's weird, wonder why that is, probably not important' then turn around and make you go 'WHY DIDN'T I REMEMBER THAT, IT WAS IMPORTANT' and it all comes together and jeez it's just great. I would absolutely recommend these to any children I knew (if I knew any). They're definitely not dumbed-down at all.
Also: "taking the sorrows of those you love makes you stronger in the end"
EXCUSE ME I THOUGHT THIS WAS A CHILDREN'S BOOK this is so sad ;-;
oh Nightlight
oh Pitch

I just love the story of the Easter Bunny that Joyce has come up with for the second book in the Guardians of Childhood series. E Aster Bunnymund joins North, Ombric, Nightlight and Katherine in the fight against Pitch, The Nightmare King. The story is whimsical, fun, exciting and innovative. It will certainly capture its readers' imaginations and send them barreling into the center of the earth with the Guardians on their mission to destroy Pitch. The warrior eggs were such an imaginative creation and I love the reinvention of the Easter bunny as a warrior Pooka.
The combination of descriptive writing and the amazing illustrations will keep children rereading these novels for years to come. Really fantastic and can't wait for the next in the series.

If you have watched the Rise of the Guardians animated movie and wanted to learn more about the lovable Australian tattoo covered, boomerang wielding giant rabbit, this is not the book for you. While it does feature Bunnymund, it's a vastly different character, looks and personality wise.
Despite that, I enjoyed reading this book. I may be far above the intended age, but I loved reading about this wonderful world and characters. The illustrations are a lovely addition to the story. The plot isn't exactly complicated, nor do characters get a lot of growth while progressing through the story, but that's to be expected for a childrens book with 251 pages.
Overall it's a lovely book. I would give it a 3.5 rating if I could, because it's definitely worth more than 3.
