What I like about this series is that each book is a definite standalone novel. I have read all of them now, and even though this is book four, I read it last and never felt I missed a thing. Being a series based on brothers and a bestie, they all make cameos throughout the series and I loved getting to see them again and again.
This book is Dave and Jessica’s tale. He is one of Eric’s younger brothers and she works for his agent. What starts out as a great idea to support Jessica’s story to her gran, ends up with a lot of lies. As much as they try to pull it off, someone is going to look bad and hearts will be broken.
Dave was a sweetheart. He was funny, talented and devoted to not only his craft but Jess herself. She had a great sense of family commitment that resonates well with Dave, and he adored her for it. She only wanted the best for them both but the lies were making it all too difficult. Their story isn’t overly angsty but more sensible working through their issues and comprising.
I’m sad to say goodbye to these characters as each book was fun to read and I recommend all of them. And if you can, add the audio. It’s only one narrator, not my favorite way to listen to a book but audios give you the exact feelings and expressions the author is trying to depict. This author is fast becoming a favorite of mine and I’ll be working through more of her books.

Her heart was in the right place, but she must have lost her mind. #1 Lie is a #1 MUST HAVE! Gephart turns heartache into laughter and love, in an over the top, hard to resist sort of way. With what she believed to be a little white lie Jess sealed her fate. When the circumstances change Jess is in for a rude awakening and just maybe the love of a lifetime. Get ready to fall in love with a little white lie and an ENCHANTING romance.

I love Hollywood romances, although this one didn’t involve an A-lister, but a minor actor making his way into stardom. This book stars Dane Larsson, Eric’s and Roman’s brother (from previous books). I loved this guy, he was such a decent sort, serious, friendly, attentive and caring, apart from being a 6’2” tall, 210 pounds of yumminess.
Jessica lied to her grandmother; when her granny was sick and they thought she was at death’s door, she told her she had a boyfriend. Then her granny returned to the land of the living and there’s a family wedding and now Jess is expected to bring a boyfriend, except the boyfriend is a figment of Jessica’s imagination.
Enter Dave Larsson, who is managed by Jessica’s boss, a Hollywood agent. Jess has always liked Dave, found him hot and nice, but he was a client, and thus forbidden. Now she was desperate and willing to break rules. She offered Dave a role in a real-time movie where she was his leading lady, and the movie involved a family wedding in Jessica’s hometown, way in the South.
What we read later on is a madcap adventure of Jessica’s crazy family and how Dave fitted seamlessly with everyone. They all loved Dave, he had a great time with the family crazy, the granny loved him, and Jessica was falling for him. The problem was: is it real or is it acting or is it possible that after so many months working together, they really had an attraction they could build a relation on? Many insecurities and miscommunications ensued and we are also treated to a Southern banquet of food and manners. It was a great read, funny and heartfelt and full of sass.

This story was so amazing!
I had trouble putting this one down.
Emotions ran wild!
I just adored Jessica, she made the decision to tell a little white lie to her grandmother while she was on her deathbed, and now it's come back to bite her in the butt! And Dave.....swoonalicious book boyfriend material right there. Just sayin'!
A Fun, sexy and very addictive story that will keep you hooked from the start. Definitely a book I recommend.

"...sex appeal was so deeply ingrained in his double helix, it was as much a part of him as those gorgeous chocolate-colored eyes."
Well, well, well ... wasn't it nice to meet another Larsson brother? Thank you Tina, for giving us Dave and Jessica. Their story really had to be told. It's full of fun and wit and I really enjoyed reading it!
"It was a rare man who could be just as sexy on paper as he was in person, but Dave Larsson was a freaking unicorn."
Dave, as one of four Larsson brothers, coming form a gene pool the woman's world thanks god for. He's one of those guys a girl dreams about meeting. Kind, funny, caring, gorgeous, HOT. A guy you can steal horses with. It was easy to fall for him, and I don't blame Jessica for doing so.
"I wasn't sure what had been the bigger lie. That I'd convinced myself we were pretending. Or that I was capable of letting him go."
Jessica was also a fun character. The love for her family, specially her granny, is just so lovely. Sometimes it's easier to tell the truth than keeping up a lie. That's what got her in trouble in the first place. But this was just the right amount of trouble to see what was right in front of her nose over the last years. She's also an easy to love heroine and it was fun reading her story.
"I wanted you by my side because that's the way it's meant to be. It was always supposed to be us."
#1 Lie is a nice lovestory full of wit and heartwarming fun. It will make you smile a lot and it's totally worth the read.

Such a fun loving story by Author T. Gephart. This is my first book I have read from her and I loved it.
I was laughing and totally swooning over Dave Larsson. He just had me at Hello.
Loved how the author set up this story. It felt so real.
Dave and Jess are one hot couple together & one that everyone needs to read.

Guys! Seriously comrades I LOVE romantic comedies – cannot get enough of them. And when I say you need to check out Gephart I mean you need to stop what you are doing now and add her to your TBR yesterday. It isn’t even her inventing a new wheel on the romcom genre, it is simply that she is such an amazing writer and this series is just an amazing example of how entertainingly hilarious she is with her fictional characters and plot dynamics. She takes a favorable trope and explodes it into such a charismatic chuckling feast with some deliciously believable chemistry.
And obviously because this is a series I will do a quick mention, #1 Lie can be read as a standalone regardless of it being book four, so don’t be afraid to skip ahead if you want but honestly I highly recommend reading books one, two, and three. If not because they do connect to some degree, but really because the series if flipping hilarious and I promise you will not be disappointed.
Well now that revealed one truth, lets dive into the review shall we?
I love tropes where there is a ‘lets pretend’ romance. It is just a fun plot that always has a comedic mojo to it with a full predictable drama climax that never disappoints. Gephart of course nailed it on this factor. Not only was the basis of the faking a relationship trope adamant, but it was believable, beautifully paced with both hilarious dynamics and steam filled chemistry.
Jessica is definitely an amazing female character. I don’t think there was a point or situation where I did not like her personality. She is obviously a work-aholic by trade, well respected and also knows how to have fun. I loved Jess, plain and simple. Though going in you might think, why lie about having a boyfriend? But it just made her quirky personality more adorable. Dave on the other hand was just as scrumptious as I had hoped for. He was really sweet, considerate and an interesting character that honestly took the show. He was perfection – I loved him.
And not to mention too much, but seriously their chemistry was beaver drool worthy. From the moment Dave agreed to be the ‘Fake Wedding Date’ to the moment of their climatic drama it was evident there was a firey chemistry between the two characters. What I liked most about them was moments leading towards the obvious sexual attraction – getting to know one another, the ‘group date’ plus the hilariously unfortunate attempt to breaking the ice with their kissing was classic. They were adorable, fun and entertaining mixture that just clicked in the best of ways that had me grinning from ear to ear as I read. Plus that hotel scene…. oh my lanta is it hot in here or is that my pants? Yeah… definitely my pants because they are on fire! Whew.
Before you ask too, I will admit that I wasn’t ready for the story to come to an end, but as every great story begins it needs to end; Jessica and Dave have the perfect dramatic climax to their romance story. Though yes, there was a certain level of insta-love/attraction to the overall plot, it did not deter from my enjoyment of reaching this happy ever after. And obviously before we get there we need some drama – it was super believable. I liked it.
Overall I enjoyed #1 Lie, and I have thus so far enjoyed this series. There were laughing, smiles, swooning and gooey melting off my seat yummy to keep me wanting more and more of Jessica and Dave’s love story. The development of the connection between them was perfection. I honestly cannot wait to see what is next in store for this series, assuming there is more to come which I truly hope there is! I know I will dive head first into anything by Gephart at this point… And so should you!

As a big fan of The Wedding Date, it doesn't hurt my feelings at all that #1 Lie is not entirely a unique story. And although the primise is the same, the execution is different. Instead of an Ex to make jealous, the Lie comes from trying to convince Jessica's grandmother that she is happy. Strong family ties and good 'ol Southern Hospitality are woven all throughout this witty, sweet story.
I found myself laughing out loud and grinning like a goon during much of the banter between Dave and Jessica. And the chemistry between the two certainly kept things heated. Turns out, the only lie is their breakup, not the relationship.
Tina Gephart has created the most amazing set of Larsson brothers. Each one just keeps getting better!

this is a very funny and witty story.
"dave Larsson was a freaking unicorn"
I loved seeing more of Dave and his relationship with jess, these 2 characters were so great together I was hooked.
"I am never going to lie again"
fake relationships are one of my best reads so glad this one ticked that box.
"let's start again, and this time it can be for real".
Ms gephart has done an amazing job.
