I am so so glad that I finally started this series. I genuinely enjoyed the first book so much and I cannot wait to read the others. I enjoyed the characters- even though most of the main characters are kids and I love their bonded animals. I also enjoy the magic and world building in this one - at 12 every child gets a chance to drink a nectar - and call forth a spirit animal that shall accompany and aid them the rest of their lives. The four main kids call back fallen beasts that disappeared ages ago and it's up to them to bond with them and save the world. I genuinely enjoy that this book doesn't shy away from darker themes or scenes and that this book has a great mix of light and dark topics. I also love that the kids don't instantly bond with their animals but it takes them time- I prefer that over the way some books do it when the main characters are perfect and almost like Mary Sues- you don't really get that in this book and that is so refreshing to see. I also enjoyed each character individually and I cannot wait to see where they go from here and to see the bonds develop further.

A new multi-platform/multi author series. This one is about four kids and their Spirit Animals fighting evil. It was hard for me to get into this book and I got confused about the characters/animals name and pairs. It was probably due to SRC craziness and I was only able to read very little at a time.

A friend's daughter lent me this book and boy did I love it! She'll be lending me book 2 soon, but I think I might need to buy this series for myself!

Shoot, I forgot about these books. I’ve read so many books I’ve forgotten to log a lot of them. I have to try and guesstimate the dates I read them. It’s coming back to me slowly though, which ones I’ve read. I remember loving this book in middle school.

I found it at my school’s scholastic fair that I got books from every year. Those were so fun!!!

Can I still review it after all these years? I think so, I remember enjoying them a lot. Perhaps I’ll pick them up again sometime.

This is everything I love in a well-done fantasy novel for kids. The characters are learning who they are, filling huge roles, and are a part of the grand struggle between good and evil.
I’ve always enjoyed Brandon Mull’s books and this one was no exception! I’m intrigued to see how the series continues to go, especially considering its format as a multi-author series. It’ll be interesting to see how each author - from the very impressive lineup! - brings their own skills and strengths and blends them with the overall arc of the series.

I enjoyed this story though the writing was aimed at 8 to 10 years old which was a little younger than usually appeals to me. It took a little time for me to get into the story, but things picked up around the fifth chapter. It's a set up story for a series so the introductions took some time.

I'm not quite sure where to begin with this book. The idea is solid, but the execution leaves much to be desired. I would have expected more from Brandon Mull, but I can only assume he was curtailed by an overarching outline or big-wig interference, because there is none of Mull's lively imagination on display here. This is cut and paste fantasy of the laziest kind. Characters are prototypes and the world-building is non-existent. I don't know if I'll be bothering with further volumes in this series.
