This was for school so we didn't read all of the stories.
Short review for this one because I think most people have read some Poe. I like Poe and I've got another book with his poems, so I think I'll look into those too!
Recommend it!

Does it get any better than Poe? Creepy, weird, and wonderful, as always.

I love the gothic style writing of Poe's work, but like with all short story collections, some were hits and others were not.
My favorites were:
"The Black Cat"
"The Tell-Tale Heart"
"The Murders in the Rue Morgue"
and, "Ligeia"
Although I loved the gothic style writing, it did make some of the stories hard to read and comprehend, but I found that playing an audio book while simultaneously reading helped with this. Can't wait to read more of Poe's work!
Also this particular edition has super small words that are very closely knit together. I would say pick up a different edition or read the stories solo. This took me forever to finish because of the small font.

It has been a long time since I have read any Edgar Allan Poe. I had forgotten the unique eloquence with which he writes. His poetic verbosity. And time wonderful, and at others it can really make a story drag. It is interesting how easily he changes is dialect of writing to fit the setting of the story, bringing each one to life on their own. What I hated most has nothing to do with his writing but the book itself. Why is the print so tiny, any minimally spaced?! harder to find a good break point and tired my eyes quickly. Poe is not someone I can sit and read a lot in one sitting. I can read a lot in a day, but my eyes needed a lot of breaks. And so does my brain to digest and fully grasp what I just read.

Ligea - 3/5
The Fall of the House of Usher - 5/5
The Murders in the Rue Morgue - 4/5
*The Masque of Red Death - 5/5
Pit and the Pendulum - 4.5/5
*The Tell-Tale Heart - 5/5
The Gold-Bug - 3/5
The Black Cat - 4/5
*A Cask of Amontillado - 5/5
Read/Re-read (*) most of these to prep for a planned rewatch of Mike Flanagan's The Fall of the House of Usher this autumn. The standout was of course Fall of the House of Usher here, but I was pleasantly surprised by most of the others. Gold Bug and Ligea were by far my least favorites, but were still entertaining in their own right. :)
