This book has also been slow for me but definitely sucked me in at the end. A tiny bit more romance in this one, so I'm excited for there to hopefully be more in the next one. Very intrigued on all the unsolved mysteries.

I'm officially hooked on this series. Karen Moning has cranked up the heat in the second book of the fever series and this read is markedly better that it's predecessor. Picking up right where Darkfever left off we are brought back into the world of MacKayla Lane side-seehr, who is still in Dublin, Ireland searching for her sister's murderer and for her true identity.
While I gave this book 5 stars there were some things that I did not like. For example, I hate the fact that the author feels the need to refresh my recollection about numerous details found in the first book. Most of the folks reading Bloodfever have no doubt read Darkfever and remember most of these important facts. If someone has the nerve to jump into a book that is part of a series without reading them in sequential order then that sucks for them. Let's just move on and get to the good stuff already, shall we? Furthermore, I loathe when narrators address the reader directly. Don't bring me into the book in that way, I don't really like it. I would much rather the narrator just talk and lure me in naturally and gradually.
Let's move on to the good stuff. I love the fact that MacKayla seems to be growing. Her character in the first book was a little muted but it seems and though she is really coming into herself. I loved the fact that she stood up to Barrons a few times(though her reasoning was stupid and childish). She still let's Barron boss her around but, hey we can't expect people to change overnight. And besides, she needs him to help get some answers, so she has to play nice even though she doesn't want to. She also doesn't whine as much in this book as she does in Darkfever. However, I became increasingly annoyed with her internal dialogue and constant questions and reflections. There were times when I found it necessary because she explained her behavior. And other times there was some really gripping bits where she talks about lessons that her mom and dad taught her that I liked but most times I felt as though it was overload.
I thoroughly enjoy the exchanges between Mac and Barrons. Mac is funny and light hearted for the most part which is contrasted with Barrons' deep and dark demeanor. They play well against each other and I'm always excited to hear what comes out of their mouths. I especially loved the scene in the cave!!
Now let's talk about Jericho Barrons. He is mean, rude, domineering, secretive, evasive, self-serving all the while being sexy, confident, appealing and RAW. He is who he is and I can't help but gush every time he speaks. I love this man and I want to know who he is, where he came from, why he can see FAE, why he can walk through the shades..I want to know every bit of detail about this man.
The author also has a great ability for not going for the obvious with her story lines. There were numerous times where I totally did not see something coming (for example with the amulet and the unepic thing that happened). She answers some questions but raises so many more. I am currently in the middle of reading the next book Faefever and I hope it doesn't disappoint. Bloodfever is an excellent read and I'm glad that I decided to take the ride.

Second half better than first. Prefer the Highlander series more.

Bloodfever is book 2 in the fever series. I really enjoyed the first book and was excited to continue the series. While I did enjoy this book overall, Mac frustrated me. She continued to make questionable decisions while insisting that she knew more this time around, all while giving off the air of selfishness. There’s definitely been growth in her character but she seems to keep reverting. I do find the dynamic between Mac and Barrons to be fascinating and it keeps me engaged. However, in this book, I was most interested in V’Lane. As far as the plot went, this book felt like a typical book 2 in a trilogy - filler to set up the broader story arc. I still enjoyed it, and it kept my interest. However, I like the first book better. I read this via audiobook and still have a love/hate relationship with the narrator. The voices the narrator uses are applicable to the characters and their backgrounds; however, the accent for Mac irritates me.

Aaaaaaand the stupidity continues. I can see why no one listens to Mac.

Still, the author is a champion at writing sequel hooks, I gotta give her that.

Man, these are addicting! Karen Marie Moning has created such an interesting paranormal world, filled with awesome untrustworthy characters. The plot is fast-paced and so easy and fun to read. I highly recommend these -- at least from what I've read so far. On to book 3!

A fantastic second installment to my new favourite series! The story continues with Maclyn's attempt to understand her powers and the existence of the Fae. Torn by an allegiance to potential new allies, her relationship with Jericho is tested. Forced to face off against Malluce, Mac realizes that she is no longer the innocent little girl from Georgia...onto the next book!
