I have been obsessed with stories about djinn since listening to The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker. This first book in a middle grade series about djinn twins did not disappoint, and I look forward to listening to the rest of the series.

This was okay. It had an interesting premise, but the unfolding plot and the author's writing style weren't very compelling. I wasn't hooked on this story at all. The characters were relatively boring, a little watery; and several (apparently key) concepts were not well-explained - I seriously doubt I will read any more of these books.

It's a fun book and I liked it enough to read the second book in the series, which I would describe as being "ok" as well. They aren't bad, but they aren't anything special. I found them entertaining and would recommend them to people of all ages who are just looking for a few hours of good fantasy entertainment. However, I think children would really be able to get more out of these books than adults.

Super clever twins, a secret power, and a trip to Egypt...great combination of fascinations in this first of the series. Most of this volume deals with what the children discover about themselves. Their Egypt adventure, however, is every bit as compelling. Good for fantasy fans as well as those interested in the ancient world...and any one else who likes a page-turner.

"May the saddest day of your future be no worse than the happiest day of your past."
"A second or two later, the reptile had been quite absorbed by a handsome, arrogant-looking Englishman smelling strongly of snobbery and snake."
