Chasing the Prophecy by Brandon Mull

In what is definitely the last book of the Beyonders series (although it feels like he might set another story in Lyrian), the story continues from where it left off in Seeds of Rebellion. Jason and Rachel may not be from Lyrian, but after all they have been through there, it has become a home to them. Now holding the prophecy, they must decide if they can believe it and must separate to find success. Both meet both friends and foes on their journeys, but it is together that they can become the heroes Lyrian demands.

Good action and since the first two are so popular, I have no doubt that this one will be as well.

Suitability: Grades 5 and up

Recommendation: Recommend

The book was not bad. It was a perfectly satisfying conclusion to a good series. However, I can't help but be a little...disappointed. The book could have been so much better than it was. There was action, but it was all fairly predictable
SpoilerWhenever there is a battle scene, you can expect at least 7 drinlings will die as a rule of thumb
. Even what was suppose to be the most epic parts came across as a little boring. Looking back, I don't remember a single time that I felt invested in any of the trials the characters were going through. Even the deaths (and there were a lot of deaths) did not suck me in like they usually do in other stories. Furthermore, the characters I really like in the last few book came across as flat in this one
SpoilerJason was completely useless in the third book! I really liked his character in the first book and expected him to develop some sort of awesome power over the series, but he paled in comparison to everyone else. His group always had to protect him and fight his battles for him...literally. Even Corinne was a better swordsman than him; she at least beat a lurker. I really don't understand why everyone respected him so much
. And the ending. It was so frustratingly anticlimactic
SpoilerWhy did no one see Maldor die!! Are you kidding me? We waited three books for it to happen and all we get is Galloron saying that Maldor must be dead because he can no longer "sense him." And Rachel returning home. I know that the prophecy said that one must stay and one must go, but why did it have to be Rachel? Jason really does not have much going for him in that world (other than his romance with Corinne which was never really fleshed out), whereas Rachel is insanely powerful. Rachel definitely pulled the short end of the stick
. I really expected Brandon Mull to pull out a spectacular ending that tied up all the loose ends, but when I got to the end of the book, I felt like saying, "That's it?" All and all, the book was okay, but I definitely expected more.

An amazing end to an amazing series!! I loved everything about it. From watching the characters progress and grow throughout their travels, to the ever building plot. I recommend this series to all who enjoy fantasy and adventure books.

This series was amazing!!

I have read Brandon Mull’s other series, Fablehaven/Dragonwatch and Five Kingdoms, and I really enjoyed them, so I picked up this one. My only regret is that I didn’t start it sooner.

This fantasy universe is so wonderfully created, it is definitely one of the most original and entertaining worlds I have ever read about.

I liked getting chapters in more POVs in this book, too. Instead of just Jason and Rachel, we got to hear about things from Tark and Nedwin.

I do have a complaint: Death. I won’t say who, but most of my favorite characters died. How rude? I was loving them!

Overall, absolutely would (and have) recommend the series!

So I finally finished this book. And it was not bad. I do think the writing was weird. And at times annoying to read. But I liked to story, I liked the ending. I felt connected to the characters. And now when I grow up I want to be a wizard. I want to speak the magical language of Edomic. And be super cool and ✨magical✨

And yes I am aware that all of that sounds like I should rate it higher. But the reason I gave it 2 stars is that when I finished I didn't feel relieved or anything that bad. But I did feel like I just completed a hard project or a homework assignment. And I take that as a sign. I was invested. I did like the plot. I also liked the characters and the world. But I think it draged on.

Bottom line not a bad book. I get why people like it. But after I read the first book I thought that Mull could have made the word work and ended it. I don't think it would have been great if he did that, but maybe it would have been better
