I didn’t realize at first that this book was connected to a previous book so it was a pleasant surprise to reconnect with the Taylor family. The version of the book I read had live action media which was a new and different thing. A fun perk of reading in the kindle app on my iPad mini.

I was glad to catch up with Seth and Carly and see them continuing to work through their issues and apparently being successful. In this book a murder victim is connected to Carly’s younger brother so there is extra strain on both Seth and Carly via their jobs thanks to the case.

There are some good red herrings and things are suspenseful all the way to the end with one thread left dangling which I assume will be addressed in a future book in the series.

I like the dynamic here of Leigh and author Kendra Elliott switching off books in the series as they did with a previous series. It gives a slightly different feel but we still operate in the same universe. Fortunately I enjoy both authors’ writing style so it works for me.

There were a few spots that could have benefitted from some deeper exposition
and there are threads still hanging from previous books with this cast that I was wishing were addressed. But overall it was an enjoyable read.

Tracks of Her Tears is book 1 in the Rogue Winter series, a set of novellas written by Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliot. The main characters were first introduced in the Rogue Rivers series. But Tracks of her Tears can be read as a standalone, as there is a new mystery to be solved here. However, for more background on the characters, read the Rogue Rivers series because it's good!
In this novella, we are reunited with Seth and Carly. Carly's brother Bruce is missing, and Bruce's girl-friend is found murdered.
It is a very quick and entertaining read that has more suspense than romance. I love all of the Taylor family and their interactions. Melinda Leigh just knows how to write suspenseful stories with likable characters. She never disappoints.
Thank you to the author and the publisher for providing me with a complimentary copy via NetGalley in exchange for an unbiased review.

Have I missed something? Or did the killer had no apparent motive for killing?? Nor do we know anything about the second victim...did it even exist? Or was it the first victim in the end??

The part I did enjoy was how the couple was going through their marital problems and the communication that followed, but this was supposed to be a mystery, not a marriage counseling/family drama where the couple's issues are solved but not the mystery itself...

Turned out to be not as thrilling or atmospheric as promissed, and a bit boring and predictable, with no unexpected twists.

Great quick suspenseful read

Short and quick read! I enjoyed the characters and how the story developed. It was enough mystery/suspense for a novella.

Tracks of her Tears by Melinda Leigh – A Rogue Winter Novella is a 2015 Montlake publication. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

It is the holiday season in Solitude, Oregon, but it's anything but merry and bright. When Carly's brother, Bruce goes missing and his girlfriend is found murdered, it's up to Seth, to solve the case and keep his family safe.

It seems like it's been a long time since I have touched base with this series, so I was happy to see a pair of novellas coming out this month- this one from Melinda Leigh and “Dead in Her Tracks” By Kendra Elliot.

This story reunites us with Seth and Carly, who are back together and making their marriage the top priority is their lives now. But, when Bruce's girlfriend is found murdered, they find it hard to find balance in their personal lives, especially when a young child is left without parents.

This is one action packed story, though, a little gritty, and pretty realistic as the author showcases just how dumb criminals can be and the horrible consequences of their actions.

I was happy to touch base with Seth and Carly, and am thankful that this couple are working things out, and that for once, Seth didn't get on my last nerve. He is really coming along, and showed that he can stick to his guns when it comes to trusting his wife and letting her do her job, just like he has to do his. The pair actually worked together on this one and make a pretty darned good team, if you ask me.

While the circumstances are sad for many concerned, there is a bright ray of light that we see shining through in the end and it looks like Carly, Seth and Brianna will have a very Merry Christmas!

Melinda started the story off with suspense, but that is one of many reasons why she's a favorite romantic suspense author of mine. She immediately grabs the readers attention, and wants the reader to continue reading on to find out who the killer is behind it all. I'm glad she re-visited Seth and Carly because these two have become a favorite of mine due to them committing back to their marriage and how they've grown back into love with each other. They both have strenuous jobs, but their making it work. Between the characters and the storyline of Tracks of Her Tears, I had a hard time putting down this novella.

I received a complimentary copy of the book from Netgalley (via the publisher) in exchange for an honest review.

Tracks of Her Tears is the first novella in a new series, but it is about characters established in a previous one by Melinda Leigh and Kendra Elliott--the Rouge River series. I haven't read that one (yet--all four books have been added to my TBR!), but I didn't feel at all lost as I read this one. Somehow Seth and Carly almost managed to feel like old friends even though I hadn't read either of their previous books (Ms. Leigh's books focus on them, and Ms. Elliott's center on Carly's sister Stevie and Zane, the new police chief). Since this book sets off a new overarching plot arc set in Solitude, Oregon, it's the perfect place to start.

Tracks of Her Tears was a quick, suspenseful read--reading it was very much like reading an episode of a favorite crime show, and I didn't have to feel too guilty about taking time out of my weekend of schoolwork to polish it off. (Thank goodness for Thanksgiving break--it definitely cannot come too soon.) I immediately felt caught up in Seth and Carly's lives as they adjusted to their reconciliation and raced against time and an incoming snowstorm to find Carly's brother Bruce and figure out who had killed his girlfriend.

Thanksgiving break goals--get caught up on schoolwork and squeeze in book two in the series, [b:Dead in Her Tracks|25707051|Dead in Her Tracks (Rogue Winter Novella #2)|Kendra Elliot|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1444932565s/25707051.jpg|45538419]...

Eyeroll

A murder story without suspense. Everything goes according to the plan. The pretended character development ends up being overexpository and boring. Non interesting characters, the killer can be seen a mile away. Welp, I am glad it was short.

A good novella part 1

You get more Carly and Seth in this book.
You get a murder, a kidnapping, and a missing person.
Let’s see what book 2 brings.
